My understanding is that the muddy water at Galveston is a function of the outflow of the Mississippi River through the Mississippi Delta, picking up mud, and the prevailing currents in the Gulf
it's been that way for the last five years that i've lived here. the seaweed this year is definitely abnormal. it's usually bad this time of year, but not this bad. heard that it's the worst it's been in 50 years. it'll go away along with the cabbage heads that wash ashore. pretty confident it'll be gone come august. i live downtown in a loft, but hit up east beach a few times a year. just msg me though the board late july and i'll give you a heads up on the conditions on the west end.
It is awful. I actually saw women sun bathing laying on top of the seaweed, now that is desperate. They have stopped cleaning the beaches for "environmental" reasons, which basically means dirty beaches. I don't know about SPI this year, but have been there about 25 times and I have seen the sea weed just as bad.
Galveston is a dump. Please stay away. Go somewhere else. If you MUST come, take 61st to Seawall and take a LEFT. Not a right. A LEFT. TIA.
That's funny, a couple of weeks ago we went to SLP to do some fishing, it was a bust but as we exited the Blvd. and crossed under the bridge somebody had spray painted on one of the pillars in very big letters, "Go Home Houston".
Been to Padre tons of times, problem is the large amount of tourists. We prefer a bit of peace and quite so we always stay away from the tourist traps. Gotta make the decision soon, prime suites will be gone if I dont book soon. I figure you've been down there long enough to take your word for it. thanks bro. Screw that. West end or no end. You go hang out with the morons on East and Stewart. Which is kinda funny when you consider just how much money is spent on that island from the Houston metro area. I realize the tons of tourists are a pain in the ass, but Id wager the businesses down there dont agree with that sentiment.
4 million people in the highest heat index city on Earth (hyperbole) yeah, they are coming to the beach The numbers have actually gone way up since Ike. I saw people swimming this past November, our beach was packed over Spring Break and Easter. It was wall to wall Memorial Day but at JB, we limit cars on the beach Friday -Sunday. My theory down there is the 1,400 homes on the bay side that used to be quiet fisherman took a lot of flood damage and have all sold investors who use them for rental property. Just give them a golf cart and they are practically beach front. The seaweed actually rots pretty quickly. I can't speak to the Seawall but the beach weed is usually dried out by mid-June. This year is something elses.
It depends on what you're looking for: Fishing? Surfing? Beach fun with family? Driving along beach? Beach party? etc. I just created a new thread with a VERY helpful map for the above information.
When I was younger, we went to Galveston, we always took a right and went to those beaches on that side. I think we went to Galveston state park. That's the one with showers and bathrooms, correct? I kinda miss that place.
