highly logical but thank God this is sports. All can happen.

Portugal and Spain can get their 'Nothing to lose' attitude back and go HAM.

    Just ignore that ranking.
    Switzerland at 6
    Uruguay at 7
    Colombia at 8
    All above Italy and Belgium:rolleyes:

    Greece at 12
    USA at 13
    Chile at 14
All above France and the Netherlands

It is a stupid list that really has no value.

At one point the Netherlands was on top of the list while Spain was the defending European and World championship:rolleyes:

This ranking is one of the worst rankings ever. And the sad part is that they actually use it to during the drawing of the groups.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the FIFA rankings.

Congrats SJC and Yung-T. Great game, Germany is a good team, Im a huge fan of Schweinsteiger and Muller.

All the USA fans, also congrats on beating your nemesis, Does the revenge feel good after the last 2 tournaments? Let's hope you can follow up and also beat, or atleast draw Portugal. It would be a great accomplishment by the USA if you advance the group stages (it was a pretty difficult group).

Im looking forward to the Belgium games. And ofcourse tomorow.

I see that you're Dutch. Are you rooting for Belgium or Korea at their match? Because of the Guus Hiddink connection, I heard many Koreans root for the Dutch, and vice versa.

Van Gaal is the Anti-Hiddink though.... more success at Club level and some kind of journeyman

I hope the USA at least draws against Portugal. Then you are pretty much through, unless Portugal completely destroys Ghana, which I consider unlikely at this point. I also don't think Germany will beat the USA with a high goal differential. My prediction how this could play out: Germany-USA 2:0, USA-Portugal 1:1, Germany-Ghana 4:1, Portugal-Ghana 2:1 - USA are through.

I agree if the USA can draw with Portugal, they are through. If they lose, I think they're out.. I don't see anyway Portugal doesn't pick up all 3 points against Ghana if they're controlling their own destiny.

Just watched the USA game. I haven't seen them play in a while but looks like the same story...not much.

Cameron was outstanding, Beckerman was outstanding. Howard was good, Johnson was pretty good, Jones had some defensive moments but is oerwise nothing. Besler was actually really good with Cameron. But that was when Ghana was doing nothing. It would have been interesting to see how he held up once the Ghana coach came to his senses and put Boetang in.

Bradley was terrible. Beasley was terrible. Dempsey had one great run and then generally wasn't much. Everyone else was pretty limited.

Oh - ATW...Mulller MIGHT have exaggerated? Beautiful game otherwise but I wish he hadn't done that. It is a good thing Germany doesn't play Honduras, though, because Muller would get his legs broken by those thugs. Or do you think he would wear adult shin guards and socks in that game?

PS - the Ghana/JR Smith comparison is funny and appropriate. They clearly had more talent and more pace. But dumb coaching and idiotic decision making when they had an advantage did them in.

I think there will be plenty of home cooking in favor of Brazil. 3-1 Brazil is my prediction.

Agreed I love it. Let's hope they do not bounce back against the USA.

I'm a fan of Hiddink, he has done amazing things with national teams. I respect van Gaal, but I do not like him (also 2002 was terrible).

You can look at it this way.
Belgium is sort of our weak little brother, South Korea is sort of a son of a friend who went with us on a holliday one summer.
I will root for Belgium against South Korea, but when south Korea plays a stranger I will root for them.

I'm not a fan of the USMNT, but hard to root for Christiano. I'm fairly certain the US and A will take care of The Christianos in the next game.

First day of group G couldn't have played out much better for the USA. It still won't be easy though. A win should guarantee us through, a tie most likely puts us through, and a loss puts our hopes on beating Germany...

Needless to say, this Portugal game is very very important.

I think is much better to have one thread as you get different opinions from people that are supporting other nations... Not necessarily the homerism you will see on the other thread.

Lol no way man.. Brazil 2:0 here

The US team is much better than how they played yesterday. They went into a "prevent defense" 34 seconds into the game after Dempsey scored.
