Did Singleton have signability issues or something? He jumped to the top of their prospect list too quickly for him to have come out of nowhere.

Going into his senior year of HS he looked like a 2nd rounder, but a poor year caused him to drop considerably.

Maybe it's just me, but is anyone else excited about the collection of power bats the Astros just added to their system?

Derek Fisher has the potential to be a Springer/Singleton-level prospect if he can overcome his injury history.

A.J. Reed could be the best power bat to come through the system in years and the DH/1B of the future for the Astros.

J.D. Davis, if he can make the transition back to 3B, could possibly leapfrog Rio Ruiz as the club's top prospect at that position and the guy to eventually replace Matt Dominguez in a couple of years.

I see Fisher and Reed immediately being top-20 prospects in the Astros' system, and Davis maybe just outside that group. A year from now, it's not unreasonable to think all 3 could be top-10 system prospects.

I'm loving how Luhnow has built up this farm system. I see sustained success for the Astros coming very soon.

How long until AJ Reed makes his Tri-City debut? He hasnt been in the lineup their first few games, is he injured?

I think that he won a national collegiate baseball award (Howser Trophy) and had to attend that ceremony.

Springer and Singleton both probably rank ahead of most optimistic expectations for Reed in terms of power.

@LauraAmato: J.D. Davis. Power-hitter. In his second day as a pro ball player, Davis drills a two-run homer in the B7 to tie the game at two all.

Hope you're right. I didn't follow the talent in the draft as closely as I did the previous two years, but from an uneducated perspective I wasn't blown away.

    Power is so subjective.

Sometimes people dwell on what a prospect cannot do. In Reed's case he isn't a great athlete, isn't a great fielder, doesn't run well and doesn't reek of untapped talent.

However what Reed can do it hit, and hit with power. I would not be surprised if he is the best player the Astros get out of this draft class.

There is as better chance that Aiken will be a #3 starter, reliever or get hurt than there is him being an all star caliber player. The MLB draft is a crap shoot. Especially when you are dealing with a 17 year old pitcher.

Yeah, we can just look at the past HS pitchers taken at 1-1.

I'm happy to see him doing well after a down year last year. His box score numbers look really good (2.09 era is good for 3rd best in the PCL) but his peripherals and advanced stats aren't great.

    LOB%- 83.9%
    BABIP- .228
    FIP- 4.14

I will say though that his K%-B% appears to be solid above average based on this fangraphs article.
