He still knows more than anyone on this board.

Sure... just like Clyde Drexler knows more about basketball simply because he's an announcer.

A lot of you don't remember Ashby in the early 2000's... he was worse than what Steve Sparks is now. After he was let go, I guess he paid some dues and "improved" his on-air delivery in Toronto, but he's been flat out wrong about many things.

Clyde is probably the worst person to compare him to, terrible coach and mediocre as a color commentator.

Ashby may not be the baseball messiah but I am pretty confident he is more knowledgable about the game than anyone posting on Clutch Fans.

He probably knows more than you... I'm pretty confident of that.

He was dead wrong (or just simply clueless) about the rule today... and has been wrong on the interpretation of other rules throughout his broadcasting career.

Funny you say that...I was listening to them in the car for the first time in awhile yesterday. Good lord are those 2 dull. I still can't even remember the guy's name who is with Sparks.

Crane should have left everything alone with JD, Dolan, and Raymond.

Pisses me off to even think about him letting JD go.

But let me guess, you are more knowledgable about all things baseball than Ashby???

Never said that... and I'm also not the one saying that Ashby knows more than everyone here.

Bob Ford... he's a better PBP guy than Dolan and Raymond... and considering Milo started to lose it after 1997, he's the best the Astros have had in a really long time.

Sparks needs work... but like I said before, Ashby was worse than he was when he started his radio stint. He's tolerable now.

I personally like Ashby, he is a hell of a lot better than Deshaies. He may not be Rod Allen or Ray Fosse but I would still rate him as well above average.

Raise your hand if you believe that Porter truly knew the rule (as he implied in his post game comments).....

Well, since I haven't listened to them much for an extended period of time, I'll defer to your opinion, but his lifeless monotone and cadence almost put me to sleep at the wheel.

I didn't like Dolan and Raymond early on, and they grew on me. Maybe it's just a familiarity thing, and I'll end up with the same opinion on Ford over time.

I like him, and he's better than he was before they got rid of him... but you're really slighting JD if you think they're even in the same league.

Also, the fact that they have Ash as the PBP on the road is pretty bad... he's not very good in that role, and that keeps him (IMO) from being "well above average."

You're entitled to your opinion, but I can assure you that it's the wrong one.

Better than JD, that is so incorrect I can't even make a joke about it. That's not a fact, but it's as close to a fact as any opinion can get.

Over Ashby sure, but not JD, he is the best.

When we had him and Calvin Murphy in the booth at the same time for a while, we didn't realize how good we had it. :(

Pretty crazy how good Calvin was in hindsight, especially relatively to what they've had since.
