This book has been great so far. It's interesting how scary this question can be.

Word. Just finished it and I was so impressed. Really well written and plotted. Weir is great at characterization and writing very realistic dialogue.

Thanks to B-Bob for recommending it.

Just ordered on Amazon. I'm ready for the challenge. The reviews make it sound like a Russian Game of Thrones.

I was looking back in this thread, seeing if I missed anything, and I can't believe I didn't suggest the truly superb WWII thriller by Ken Follett, Eye of the Needle. This is the novel that made Follett's reputation as a writer. A terrific film was made of it in the early '80's, starring Donald Sutherland and Kate Nelligan, and it follows the book very well. Read Needle and then see the flick. Awesomeness!

Stephenson doesn't go into enough detail. :)

I've never read it, but I saw the film years ago. I remember Donald Sutherland in it. That's about all I remember though. Thanks for the suggestion!

For some reason I got into a Pirate type mood. I just started reading Michael Chrichton's Pirate Latitudes. If I'm still in the same mood when I'm done, I'll reread Rafael Sabatini's Seahawk. I read it years ago, and I can't really remember too much about it, so it will be good to reread it.

I gave up on Pirate Latitudes very quickly. Should I go back and try again?

I just started today. I'm only 4 chapters in. I'm not hooked by any stretch. I do like the Port Royal atmosphere. I'll wait until it starts to get more into the plot before deciding one way or the other.

So far I wish I was more into it, but I'm into it enough that I'm not giving up yet. I will definitely report back here if I like it, or don't.

Interesting. That was one of the books I was considering reading next. I chose "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson instead.

I just finished "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown and am on a "treasure hunt/quest/puzzle solving" kick. Its my 2nd attempt at this book, so hopefully I'll do better this time.

I had issues getting all the way through that one. Interesting book, but tough to read at times.

I'm reading Game of Thrones book 5 and War and Peace at the same time. They don't really compare other than to say that both follow multiple characters chapter by chapter. However, they're both pretty good.

I also just finished Moby Dick. Way funnier than I was expecting.
