I think in its simplest form, the DH can only DH for the pitcher. Once Sipp went into the outfield, the DH was no longer hitting for the pitcher.
I am still confused as to why the DH would be gone. Wouldn't Sipp just take the place of Springer in the line up? This is a very weird rule.
When Zeid came in, he took Grossman's place in the lineup since Grossman exited the game at the same time. Since Sipp was no longer a pitcher, there was no longer a player to DH for, thus the loss of the DH.
