Islam has its own calendar, so they don't anyway, and I don't think anyone (of significance) is asking them to change. Everyone else seems fine with it anyway.

I am good with all views getting some run
Just sometimes we will have to not even entertain some views [See the MOST EXTREME VIEWS]
(but alas who chooses what is 'extreme')

You mean like making them use our dollars
and speak english and other crap like that

For the record . . . What are the dates on their Calendars based on?
What year is it in those nation's calendars?
    I am genuinely curious

    Much more worth cause

Uh, this is really old and is generally the most commonly used by historians. "Common era" has been used for hundreds of years. "Vulgar era" was used for hundreds of years by Jews to refer to the Christian calendar.

So BCE/CE is a merging of concepts in an attempt to unify different expressions for the same calendar system.

I'm more concerned about the war on Asgard, with all those extremists trying to take the Thor out of Thursday. It's really going to stir up the storm giants. Didn't anyone notice the lightning in Austin last night?

No, no. It's the work of socialist historians steeped in the Satanic arts.

Please quote me where I mentioned anything about being Biblical. Do you deny the current calendar was built around religion? Or are you being a troll? Its pretty obvious which it is.

I am increasingly annoyed by the amount of people that hold the events portrayed in the Bible as absolute fact. I think a blatant disregard of science and history is what is causing America to fall behind, religion being one of those causes.

I guess I can't stop people like you from continuing to believe in myths and stories, but please keep it out of schools. Leave bible study to Sunday school, the one you forcibly make your children attend, and leave factual history and science to public schooling. Everyone is happy and the child is allowed to choose whether he wants to believe in creationism or evolution.

It's not really like that at all.

It's more like somebody asked which pronunciation you preferred.

Then somebody said what they preferred

Then you got miffed and demanded an explanation why they preferred a different option from yourself.

And here we are - with you still obviously upset.

Advice - if you don't like the answer, don't ask the question.

The birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus changed the world like nothing else ever has or ever will. He can change you too if you let him.

    It's not absurd at all.

Things change a lot. Like another poster alluded to, countries adopted the metric system over their own weights and measures, some in the last 50 years.

We on the other hand still use measurements that originated from some dead 16th(?) century king about how long and wide his bits and pieces were and how much he could drink and carry.

It might be a name change to some people. For historians and scientists, it removes that nasty recognition that their whole dating system started and ended on hazy and arbitrary calculation, whose existence is set in stone only by social inertia. The same inertia that makes you resistant to the idea or using and thinking metric.

Every other chronological metric except for the fall months is named after some kind of deity, but no-one's trying to pinpoint or validate their historical existence. So maybe flip a coin. If kids are being taught the new method, we should probably defer to that to avoid confusing them or revealing our insecurities about getting older and less relevant.
