There is a lot of good stuff posted here that I was unaware of and I appreciate it. As an old guy I love hearing some of this stuff. Thanks for posting these.

What is bothersome though is that for a song to be considered the "greatest" shouldn't everyone have heard of it or there be some general consensus that it's the best? I've never heard of the band much less the songs.

I guess in today's music world this is just not possible with the huge mass of available music and the near dissolution of the "music industry." What station plays good music on the FM dial in Austin? KUTX? KGSR? I don't hear this stuff on the radio.

Let me go Deckard here and say, in the old days, you didn't have to be a Beatles fan to know that "Let It Be" was a hit and a great song. Everyone had heard of it, even if you hadn't heard it.

Am I making any sense?



I really liked that Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys stuff.

My oldest boy played me a Wolfmother song and they sounded like a Black Sabbath cover band. I liked it okay, but I'd rather hear Sabbath.

 

I didn't mean to complain, it's just more of a lament of the state of music. There's probably more good music than ever but primarily available as single downloads and completely unknown to all but the most involved musicologists. As an old codger the only single I've ever bought was a 45rpm or 12" single vinyl.

My youngest boy introduced me to Foster the People that was pretty listenable and I had actually heard it on the radio.
