You keep saying this, but it is not possible.

In the new CBA, 5 year contracts are NOT available in a sign and trade deal.
The only way he can get the 5 year contract is if he stays in NY. The max years on a sign and trade is 4 years.

Also, people that keep bringing up Chicago, go back to about page 3 or 4 and read aelliott's post about Chicago's cap position. It would be FAR more difficult for them to do a Melo deal than it would be for Houston.

Interesting...I'd be ok with adding Pau at a REASONABLE price but do you think he wants to play with Dwight again or vice versa?

Melo for Rockets, it is possible if he wants to win. Mavs? no a chance, Heats, 1% chance.

What the Spurs are doing to the Heat and how Wade has looked may be perfect for the Rockets. James has to be wondering if he can continue to win with Wade aging rapidly.

Obviously James is a ridiculous longshot, but Houston with a young Harden and Howard (and Parsons in theory, but at that point Parsons would make the most sense to move) makes a lot of sense to continue his championship window.

Next would be putting Bosh at the 4. And that may just be doable without even giving up Asik. Would Bosh take something like $11Mper (with the security of 4 years) to come back to TX and join a Harden, Howard, and Parsons core that would let him play the 4 as a perfect fit and not even have to play any C at all for at least next year?

    Fall back to Carmelo.

But the Spurs could push those Heat players to break a year early, the way they are exposing them. Pretty darn interesting.

Rick Carlisle would turn his career downside up.

Chris Bosh isn't going to take a gigantic paycut to leave Miami. He's making $40 million over the next two years.

However, the Rockets could acquire Bosh in a three team sign and trade deal where the Heat get Terrence Jones, Troy Daniels, filler and picks and the third team gets Jeremy Lin, Motiejunas and possibly a pick. With all those players sent out, Bosh would be able to have a starting salary of around $19.5 million, about what he's making now.

The Rockets would then still have Asik left to deal for a player or cap space to acquire a player. I suppose it would be possible, though very unlikely, that Morey would be able to swing a similar three team sign and trade deal for Lowry (starting at ~$12 million) if done perfectly. Obviously a Lowry/Harden/Parsons/Bosh/Howard/MLE/BAE team would be a championship contender.

You say that casually. But why would the Knicks give us Melo for either 3 of those guys? That's armed robbery. Phil Jackson can't be that stupid

It's a sign and trade. Not a regular trade. If the threat is real that he'll up and leave them with nothing, NY has to entertain these offers with extra picks being thrown in of course. That being said, I agree that that package is a pile of manure, and I'm not sure NY complies even if Melo is ready to leave for nothing.

Yes..... and I can tell you that the beat writer for the Bulls believes the Bulls are not willing to offer Anthony what he wants, even if they can make the moves to get it done.

Morey about to get Melo. It's just obvious.

They're probably going after Love (as we are, but they have more to offer). Maybe Chicago is comfortable with Mirotic if they can't get a deal done with Minnesota.

The beat writer said that the Bulls like Anthony/Love but that in order for it to realistically happen they most likely have to Amnesty Boozer (Reinsdorf isn't happy about this prospect), not bring over Mirotic (he wants 8 mil a year or more), move Gibson (whom they really like), lose Butler long term (he wants 12 million a year and Reinsdorf isn't giving it), possibly have to trade their #1 picks or lose them in a Love deal.

That is a whole LOT to sell Reinsdorf on, especially for such a conservative front office. The Bulls would have huge holes all over the floor AND you are asking Reinsdorf to pay Rose (missed two years), pay Boozer (to not pay) AND say "well signing Anthony or trading for Love is different, they are going to be worth the $80,000,000 they will cost.

    Just a really tough sell.

The Heat aren't going to trade Bosh for that package. They'd just let him walk and move on into FA.

I don't think he would either, but if I do expect that if LeBron is opting out this year or next, he will, too. And I do expect he will take less on a 4 year deal to take him well into his 30s to play for another legitimate contender. I don't expect he would take something as low as $11M a year, but I wouldn't be entirely shocked. Definitely believe that is more likely than him staying in Miami the next two years if LeBron opts out.

The Bulls will likely go for a SnT as well, so you're really just talking about paying for Love/Melo and Butler.

Just my opinion, but there are Butler's all over the league. I wouldn't tie up that much in him unless it's a Parsons type situtation (which it probably would be).

Ultimately, they will trade Boozer, Rights to Mirotic, and picks for Love and a guy like Budinger.

In order to get the Wolves to take on Boozer, the Bulls would need to give additional assets... as he has literally no value as a player. Also, you are assuming that the Wolves are rebuilding. I get the distinct feeling that the Wolves are not interested in rebuilding and will want players to help them win now.

The Bulls can amnesty Boozer, he doesn't have to be dealt (unless we're talking about matching salaries).

Really great analysis from Nook here about the Chicago situation. Totally agree with this assessment.

My guess: Melo moves to Miami with Lebron, Bosh gets kicked off the island. Houston or Dallas nabs Bosh.
