If the Rockets signed Melo, would you still want Parsons?

If Rockets sign Melo, would you want Parsons to remain?

  1. Yes, Parsons is still a great role player.

  2. No. Wouldn't want to pay a 4th option that much, and Melo can't defend 4's.

I don't care if he gets paid 100 million dollars, if we get our third superstar first. We will be over the cap, so it doesn't matter how much he is getting paid? Les will be paying Parsons, not you or me.

I would love to have a player of Parsons ability to be the 4th option.

Id keep parsons and try to recruit a mbah a moute(make him a respectable 3 pt shooter), get 1-2 D bigs, and a 3/d combo guard

    Dwight/ Defensive Big
    Melo/Mbah a moute
    Parsons/melo
    Harden/Daniels
    Bev/3 & D Pg

Just read an article on Melo wanting to team up with James in Miami. They are all willing to take pay cuts. We are not getting Melo.

This poll is a subtle gauge for intelligence level (I'm trying to be nice) in the GARM.

If Melo were to be signed, there would be no need for Parsons. It would be better to sign and trade him for players to fill out the team

If this is true, Melo will have the same asterick Lebron will have when he retires. These new generation players have zero competitiveness smh

So would you say the same if Melo wanted to come to the Rockets...?

Did you say the same when Clyde came to the Rockets...? Does he have an asterisk by his name...???

Play Melo at PF; probably have to part with Jones to get people to take Lin's contract, so that's fine.

The same asterisk that Bird, McHale, and Parish have?

    or

The same asterisk that Magic, Worthy, and Kareem have?

    or

The same asterisk that MJ, Scottie, and Rodman have?

Sure as long as Melo or the 3rd star is signed/acquired first. Agree with the other posters..it's not our money so will gladly spend it.

I think we have a higher chance getting Rondo than Klove or Melo.

Melo wants a ring and will take a paycut plus, Miami wants him for a big 4.
Klove just wants to make the playoffs. He can do this on any team in the east since West is so stacked.

Rondo has already won a ring. Boston just has to be willing to trade him to us and on his salary, we have a chance to add some good role players to our team.

its better than the asterisk that would be next to his career otherwise... Id rather be known as a great scorer that won a championship than a great scorer that didn't win a championship.

I see people are bashing op, but imagine if we sign Melo and when were about to resign Parsons with bird rights...and we get a call from the Hawks. They offer Milsap for Parsons in a sign and trade, would you do it? I'm just saying, if the opportunity comes up to trade Parsons for someone in equal value who plays the 4, i would personally do it.

First off, Chandler Parsons is NOT a free agent right now. He only becomes a free agent if June 30 comes and goes without the Rockets having filed paperwork with the league office to formally exercise their team option on Parsons's contract. It's not like the Rockets somehow rescinded the team option when Woj's report broke. Morey can do whatever he (or Les) wants with respect to that option until July 1.

But you are right that the Rockets could not control what Parsons does this summer if they have no intention of keeping him next year. Sure, they can match any offer sheet that he signs. But it's not like Chandler has to agree to a sign-and-trade deal. It's not like he owes it to the Rockets to make sure they get back something in return for him from a team that had the cap room to sign him anyway. (Also, because Parsons will be what used to be called a "Base Year Compensation" player, sign-and-trade deals to teams needing to send out salary in exchange will be a little difficult to pull off without adding in salaries for matching purposes; and if the Rockets dump all their non-guaranteed contracts to create cap room for Melo, there might not be anyone left to include in such a sign-and-trade deal.)

Small ball is here to stay in the NBA. Melo might not like banging at the PF spot, but to force him to play post defense an opposing team needs two post threats. Otherwise we just play Dwight on the lone big man post player. Almost no team has two big post threats, other than Memphis. Even then, Melo has the size and athleticism to make it tough on Zach Randolph.

A lineup of Howard, Melo, Parsons, Harden, and Bev is unstoppable on offense and has the physical talent to be very good on defense. Steal Carlisle from the Mavs and that team would be the championship favorites.
