I was told by several co-workers and friends of mine that my healthcare premiums would double because of Obamacare. Why hasn't this happened.

Ask your normal doctor if he accepts obamacare or whatever state plan you're under

    From the OP:

Do you have a response to his query?

Also, it sounds like OP has insurance through his company and tallanvor is quoting hikes in the individual market. Employer based insurance probably also went up, but the data presented doesn't really speak to the question.

my doctor would have been the same regardless if i had signed up for a state plan, or hadn't, or whatever.

"Obamacare" isn't a "plan" that you select.

i'm a teacher so my employer doesn't pay, it's private. It is better coverage, to keep the same coverage I was getting for 78 would've cost me around 290, so I got better coverage since it was going to be super expensive regardless. Funny thing is, my family left Russia to get away from this trash and were fine till this moron took over

i was told that my rates would not go up, but they increased about 15%...which is pretty much on pace with how costs have been increasing over the last decade or so...so basically, my rates did not go up...absolutely nothing changed for me.

I remember back in 2002 I spent a year with my employer and they actually footed the bill for health insurance. The next year, employees were paying about $30 per pay period for coverage, the year after that it was about $40 per pay period. Who was president then?

My only point is that coverage rates have been rising for a while regardless of who is/was in office. Honestly, I have seen a 1-2% increase in my current coverage per year since the passing of ACA. It differs for everybody else but it always has.

Why has my insurance gone down? I was getting ready and geared up for the fall of the US economy, I have tons of toilet paper and Twinkies ready. Now what do I do?

This is true but is a little more nuanced. Obamacare is not a plan, however, many of the plans sold to individuals to comply with Obamacare have a reduced network from the insurance company's main plan. Also, many carriers created plans specifically to sell on the exchanges. Take Humana in Texas for example. You can't buy their PPO plan on the exchange if you live in Houston, only an HMO.

78 dollars, it was a 5k deductible with I believe 6300 max spending for a year. That exact same plan (because all of the cheaper plans were kicked out) was around 290, same 5k deductible and yearly max. 78 per month (i'm in California, maybe other states weren't ****ed over as bad i'm not sure)

5k, and that EXACT same plan went from 78 to around 290 when Obamacare got rid of all of the cheap options

A plan that cost $78 / month ? That's less than $1K a year . Have you ever tried to use it ?

If you don't have insurance, what do you think a doctor typically charges you for a visit? What do you think blood test costs you ? What do you think any procedure they do at the hospital costs? Do you know how much they charge you to stay 1 night at a hospital ?

I can almost bet that old plan of yours covered nothing or it may even be a scam, not even a real plan at all. Have you ever heard about scammers who sell you a piece of paper that is worth nothing ?

20+ year ago, I paid ~1K a year, my employer paid $5, 6K for my plan, 1 person.
This year I am paying $5K a year, my employer pays 20K a year for a plan for my family of 3 that is about a gold plan under Obamacare.
That is how much healthcare costs in the US and it's been going up every year for a long long time.
    Look it up.
