    via Politico:

“We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt,” Clinton told Diane Sawyer in an interview with ABC News. “We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea’s education. You know, it was not easy.”

Speaking of Hillary's book, Rand Paul said yesterday; “I read it, and honestly, I didn’t find anything in it worth plagiarizing.”

Hillary is so poor, she has to carry her own baggage.

I know your pumping hard and all, but don't blow your wad too soon. She will outlast you and make you feel inadequate.

You don't have any problem with Hillary Clinton claiming to "struggle" financially? This is a bald-faced lie from a former Secretary of State and aspiring POTUS. I find it disgusting that anyone is ok with this. What is really scary is that she may be so out of touch with what it means to struggle that she actually believes this and that she understands the plight of the common man.

"Struggle" is certainly a word that can be very different based on perspective. When mine was the only income for our family, $50k (very close to the median income) caused us to "struggle" with raising two kids and having two adults in college. Given that the Clintons weren't wealthy before moving to the White House, it could certainly be a "struggle" to keep their daughter in good private schools (a must for a President's daughter), even though they didn't have to pay any mortgages save perhaps a small one in Arkansas.

This is certainly very different from the way a single parent or person making minimum wage struggles to get by, but when viewed through the lens of former Presidents, trying to claim that Hilary using the word "struggle" is a "lie" is little more than biased partisanship, certainly nothing to be "disgusted" about.

As far as "out of touch," I would posit that no politicians, with very few exceptions, truly understand the plight of the common man. Unless one came from an environment where they experienced poverty, need, or hunger, they just aren't going to get it.

I TOO AM OUTRAGED AND PROBABLY DISGUSTED BY THIS! Politicians always understand the plight of the common man.

I agree. Her hatred for the common man is bad for this country.

I'll take Hilary's "hate" for the common man over that of Romney, McCain, or nearly any other Republican, for that matter.

This is probably closest to the truth so far. She made a horrible choice of words that may belie any future claim of empathy for the middle or lower income American. She has every right to defend her speaking fees, good for her that she can charge so much, but her "struggle" comment is something that only the 1% will sympathize with.

Also, doesn't the President get paid $400K annual in addition to an all expenses paid life? What did they spend their money on that caused them to come out of that in debt? Lewinsky lawyers?

Over $35k per year for the private school Chelsea attended, plus saving for her college (Stanford, Oxford, Columbia, and NYU aren't cheap) ate up a sizeable percentage of that income, even if they didn't have a house in Arkansas. I'm certain that there were also lawyers fees for the Lewinsky affair, but unlike many other presidents, the Clintons came into the White House with very little. The Arkansas governor in 2010 made $86k, that is dramatically less than my wife and I make and until my wife started working, we "struggled" as well.
