Mance only has numbers because again, other stronger fighters have yielded to his authority.

By the way, the GOT Wiki (no spoilers) says that the the Thenns are the most advanced group of wildlings, have a leader (hammerhead), strict discipline and more advanced weapons than anyone north of the wall.

Wasn't Mance originally from the south and a member of the nights watch ? This probably gave him an advantage when it came to organizing the independent tribes and such .

Mance used to be in the night's watch and people follow him because they simply fear the white walkers more than anything else.. This is from the show.

Now, this is NOT FROM THE SHOW I don't think is really a spoiler as it's stuff that already happened but nonetheless..

Mance was a wildlling child taken by the night's watch and raised as one of their own. He served for a long time until he got discontent with he lack of freedom he had ( long story really) so he went to live with the free folk

I think you are right. I went and paused it and figure it is Jaime. I guess I thought that because they showed Tywin then cut to kiss scene and the nose looked like Tywin, but after inspecting it more it is Jaime.

This scene was awesome. Avengers-style sweeping shot of the battle.

Pretty cool scene. There was a WTF moment for me when watching this live. One of the crows jumping on Styr(?) who's holding an ax, and subsequently gets split in two.

Mance sucks at battle strategy. 100,000 men and he only sends twenty wildlings, two frost giants, and one mammoth to attack the wall. He lost the entire raiding party attacking from the back side, which was a huge. Next time send a larger advance force.

But like they said at the end, the night's watch didn't really "win" the battle.... they just lived to survive another day.

While the wildlings didn't "win" the battle outright that night, they're still likely to win it all if they keep fighting/sending more troops each night.

Which is why the nights watch has to try and cut a deal.

what was gained by wasting the platoon that went over the wall? Also the night's watch is not trying to cut a deal.

Well, they decreased the amount of people on the night's watch, when they didn't have many to begin with in the first place. Probably not the most efficient method, but when you have the numbers you can do that.

Anybody get the feeling that slynt was going to pull the ultra douche move and rape gilley when he found her?

I would've been so pissed. Glad he was revealed as a cowering punk though

Who is that guy? I guess I just haven't been very attentive, because I don't recall seeing him before.

He was the commander of the King's Guard that Tyrion sent away when he was acting Hand of the King for taking part in murdering the Robetr Baratheon bastards.

Yeah, I got the same sense. Just walked in and made eye contact, no words. Combine that with the thought that he was probably gonna die, and it seemed like a possible scenario. Glad it didn't.

Well, at least he's still a fan of Stannis and Davos. The two best voices in the entire show.
