I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks acquire Brandon Bass, John Salmons and Austin Rivers next.

Phil wants someone who won't go over his head.

Yeah I really can't see Melo staying. No picks. Salary capped and busted team - which make trades extremely hard. Phil has to wait for 2015 to even think about hitting the reset button. And now a rookie coach. He might be respected but he has 0 coaching experience.

Melo is in the prime. He doesn't have time to wait and see how this is going to play out.

He may have no choice but to stay if the All-NBA snub is a reflection of how in demand he'll be in free agency. Let's see how many teams are going to be willing to fork over nearly 100M for 4 years of his service.

I've never really had a strong opinion on the Knicks (one way or the other) since our championship encounter....

    Phil AND Fisher....

    HATE 'EM!

While you can argue he's not the best fit for the rockets, I think someone who's been an all-star starter since 2007 will get a max contract from someone.

With zero coaching experience, what is he going to teach his players? "Hiding behind your daughter's illness when things don't go your way" requires a pretty specific skill set.

AP - Knicks trade a future first round draft pick to Rockets for right to Jason Collier and Eddie Griffin.

I completely agree and there are very, very, very few that do both.

Fisher is the type that would beat on his players if they didn't comply thoroughly with his instructions on the court. Fisher is a probably a heavy weight boxer turned basketball player. There's no other NBA point guard with those dimensions. Nash is a Judo/Kraw Mckraw master looking mother****er as well...

The most money per year Derek ever made was $6 million, and that was for one season in Utah. The rest of his career he made under 5.

Its amazing that a guy can get paid more money AFTER playing ball than when he was in the prime of his career.

Derek Fisher walks into $25 million guaranteed as a coach 9 days after his last game played. That is just sickening.

I hope the Knicks re-sign Melo for $130 million and keep losing until James Dolan sells the team for $3 billion. Then I'll be saying:

James Dolan gets a $3 billion parachute after running the Knicks into ground. That is just sickening.

If this is what the owners will pay totally inexperienced coaches like Fisher and Kerr, just imagine what would happen if there were no salary cap.

As for what Fisher will teach, if he could just impart his flopping ability, it will be worth an extra 5-6 points a game.

Actually, I don't see what the dislike is here. Sure, it's ridiculous for him to get that much with so little experience. Good for him. Who would you rather have the money? Fisher or Dolan?

And Melo leaving would be a good thing for the Knicks. No team will ever win with him. If the Rockets could get him (at any price) I would think it a bad move.

That's not true. Both McHale and Kerr had head coaching gigs before (McHale in Minny, Kerr in Phoenix I think?) And I'm not sure about Jackson. Fisher, like Kidd, is a rookie, and I don't disagree with your larger point, but your evidence isn't 100% correct.

Eh, he'll probably be like Jason Kidd. Struggle early, but get a handle on things as the season goes on.

I think he's a scumbag, but as much as I hate to say it he's pretty smart. We'll see what kind of roster he inherits.
