correct. The contention is Bergdahl has a weak conscience because it faltered where his fellow soldiers didn't. That's why he is hated by his platoon. That's why he is about to go down as one of the (if not the most) hated American soldier in history. His weak conscience.

No, you are overanalyzing this. Don't fall into glynch's rhetorical traps.

Understand that there is a code of honor among soldiers. It has nothing to do with what particular frame of mind you're in - it is based upon actions, because actions are the ultimate gauge of where your heart and mind lie. You owe your brothers your presence. You must devote your life to defending theirs. Why? Because that is what is expected of them. They will do the same for you. Have you never thought of what the term "Brothers in arms" actually means? It's not a video game, hint hint.

Would you abandon your brother - your true, blood-brother - in combat? Would you abandon him to the worst fate he enemy can dream up? If you have ANY sense of honor, duty, ot loyalty, the answer to these questions is a resounding HELL NO. Even if it meant your own death, you would protect your brother from that fate.

Now, the dude next to you might stink to high hell. He might be a complete dickh3ad. He might even be a libtard. But you depend on him, and he depends upon you, because as long as you are in this hellhole you have no one else to depend upon, and you by default must trust him.

People like glynch will never understand this. This is a code of honor that ALL those in harm's way must abide by. Your political stripe doesn't matter. Your frame of mind doesn't matter. What matters is what you do.

If you breach that trust... God help you, because your former brothers won't.

Ah, so rare earth deposits that were " recently mapped" in 2013 provided the impetus for a decision made in 2001. Good to know. I guess America actually fought Imperial Japan for their oil too, since they sat on the giant Daqing oil field in Manchuria, never mind that it wasn't discovered until the 1960s.

My response was to a poster that referred to Afghanistan as a war for oil. I stated it was a war to eliminate the safe haven for Al Qaeda, that there was no oil. But, the rare earth elements could be a reason to stay in Afghanistan.

Just trying to clear up history for that poster. Iraq and Afghanistan occurred concurrently but their justifications were completely different.
I assume it is confusing to those late to the game.

Talking about honoring the fallen, there is more dishonor in striving to claim these useless wars were necessary and thereby greatly increasing the possibility that their will be more of the fallen.

This is very sad that people are making threats to Bergdahl's family and the town of Hailey Idaho. As I said I don't think Bergdahl was all there and find this situation rather fishy but threatening his parents for wanting to see him home and his hometown?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/07/bowe-bergdahl-family-threat_n_5467139.html

FBI: Bowe Bergdahl's Family Receive Threats

SALMON, Idaho, June 7 (Reuters) - The father of Bowe Bergdahl, the Idaho soldier released from captivity in a controversial prisoner swap with the Taliban, has received emailed death threats that authorities are investigating, an Idaho police chief said on Saturday.

The first of the death threats sent to Bob Bergdahl at his home near Hailey, Idaho, was received on Wednesday, the same day the city canceled a planned rally celebrating the release of his son, Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said.

"There were four specific emails with death threats given to the FBI and they are looking into it," Gunter told Reuters in an interview.

Authorities are providing security to Bob Bergdahl and his wife, Jani, but Gunter declined to elaborate on those measures.

Bergdahl's release after being held for nearly five years in Afghanistan provoked an angry backlash in Congress among lawmakers over the Obama administration's failure to notify them in advance. Some of Bergdahl's former comrades have charged that he was captured in 2009 after deserting his post.

U.S. military leaders have said the circumstances of Bergdahl's capture are unclear, with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel urging critics to wait for all the facts to be known before rushing to judgment on Bergdahl.

The threats came as Hailey, a tourist community of some 8,000 people in the mountains of central Idaho, was buffeted by hundreds of vitriolic phone calls and emails.

The celebratory spirit that infused Hailey a week ago with news of Bergdahl's release turned to apprehension as an onslaught of angry messages were directed at city officials, businesses and friends of the Bergdahls over a hometown rally to mark his freedom planned for June 28.

As many as 15,000 supporters and protesters were expected to descend on Hailey for an event that would have overwhelmed the resources and infrastructure of the remote mountain town and potentially risked public safety and property, city officials have said.

Residents of the close-knit community have been surprised and dismayed by an angry backlash that seemed to fault them for seeking to aid the Bergdahls in a time of need, Gunter said.

"We've always come together in tragedy or crisis, whether it be fire or one of our own being a prisoner of war. Whatever the problem is, the community will be there to help the people experiencing it," he said. (Editing by Dan Whitcomb and Paul Tait)

    Absolutely pathetic.

Conservative propaganda machine incites people to send death threats to a POW's family.

You have no standing to talk about honor, glynch. You have none. You also have no idea why we went to war, and why it is vital to honor the memory of those slain there no matter what you think about the wars.

What you fail to understand is that for those who have been there these wars are not "useless". There are good reasons we went to both theaters, and for those who spilled their blood, sweat, and tears trying to make both places work against all odds it is DISGRACEFUL to have to sit here and listen to some brain-dead blowhard like yourself blabber about honor.

You wouldn't know honor if it punched you in the nose. Why don't you get back to your Chomsky now, eh?

What is pathetic is that you think that a "conservative propaganda machine" is inciting anyone towards anything. Please point out to me where anyone has instructed anyone to to and make death threats towards anyone in this mess?

There is not shortage of nutcases on either the left or the right side of the aisle. Your fake tears about this aren't going to convince anyone, r****d.

True, I have always found human beings to completely rational and unable to be manipulated by others using emotional triggers.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I find the 9/11 conspiracies interesting.

    I wouldn't say I "believe them"
