Next episode better be at least 90 minutes. These episodes just get shorter and shorter. Tonight was a pretty damn cool battle scene though.

Not what I was expecting, but a very good episode overall.

I think most of us are just expecting something extremely outrageous in the the penultimate episode of the season since the show's formula over the past 3 seasons . With that being said, I think this episode is built up perfectly for the season finale.

I'm expecting the season finale to have a bigger impact than the Blackwater/Red Wedding episode

Had a couple papers to write after the finals game, so just got done watching.

Nice to see Jon Snow commanding. My 2 favorite scenes had to be when the giant pulled his bow and pretty much fired a ****ing rocket, that was amazing. And of course, that sweeping blade. The wall had a couple tricks up its sleeve.

Also, I have to ask, and I feel like I should know but don't, what was the purpose of the burning trees?

Mance talked about "the biggest fire the north had ever seen" being the signal for the Wildlings attacking from the other side that he had arrived and was ready to begin the castle seige

Can someone who has read the books answer.

The story arc in the show - where does it fall in the books?

IE: just say season 4 is midway through the second book, going by that reference how many seasons for the show do you expect?

They are a little all over the place, Sansa for example is basically out of book material already, anything moving forward will be mostly original, although I'm sure GRRM will tell him where he goes with the character.

    Season 1 -Book 1
    Season 2 -Book 2
Season 3 -First Half book 3
Season 4 -Second Half of book 3, although they have already started using some material from 4 and 5

Books 4 and 5 take place at the same time, so they will be blended together for the next 2 seasons. We are still waiting for book 6. At GRRM's slow writing pace the show will certainly pass the books by season 7, and I personally think the story will finish on screen.

    My guess
    Season 5 Books 4/5
Season 6 Books 4/5, some of book 6
    Season 7 Book 6
Season 8 Book 7 (which should be huge, and probably won't be out yet)
    Season 9 Book 7

Sorry to see ygritte die, best looking woman on the show. Man she was in love with Jin though lol.

Great battle scene and enjoyed the episode.mhopenthis means we will get proper battles going forward. Hated theat the black water and the battle where Robb captured Jamie were basically non existent.

I expect that most battles will still be cut out, or show armies, then cut to aftermath. Without a significant budget increase, getting one battle every year at most seems about the limit.

George RR Martin recently said that he wants the conclusion to actually be a full feature movie, so it can get the special effects it would need, though I think it would have to be a "Hobbit" like 3 films for one book to have enough time to cover a whole books worth of content. The movie would probably take a few years to film, so it would give him more time to write, since the show is on pace to pass the books. If they did that then all the battles could be done right.

The biggest battle that I wish they could have shown, was when the white walkers attacked Lord Mormont and the Night's Watch at the Fist of the First Men.

Stupid question, but why did Mance Rayder want to attack Castle Black? Was it to get his people south? I already forgot what they said last season.

get everyone south and away from the white walkers. I find it ridiculous that they didn't show any Mance Rayder scenes this season before the battle. At least remind us of who he is and what hes about.

Why couldn't Mance and Jon Snow have negotiated to let the free folk south of the wall? Everyone involved knows the White Walkers are coming, it seems like an alliance between the Night's Watch and the Free Folk would make sense?

I could be wrong but I think that's what Jon Snow is going to try to do.

Would have been nice to do that BEFORE the red head got the arrow through the heart.

Also, why did they think Alliser was dead? He was clearly alive. Did all the brothers that were outside just decide not to check with anyone that was inside?

Seems really weird. Cheap way to setup Jon as a deserter for a storyline?

    That's a great question!

Where the hell are they exactly? I don' know but its pretty obvious that the wildings want to get to the south side of the wall at all costs to get away from the White Walkers. That was a great episode IMO! I loved seeing Janos Slint hide like a little b!tch with the Sam's girl and her baby.

Interesting fact: In season 1, Alliser sets 3 men against Jon Snow: Rast, Pypar and Grenn.

All 3 are now dead while Jon Snow lives.

Can only think that maybe they are pretty smart and are not ready to actually attack the wall yet. Maybe they are hoping the free folk will somehow damage the wall and make it easier for them?

I mean, how stupid do the free folk have to be? What do they think happens if they bust up Castle Black and then the White Walkers come behind them?

Alliser isn't dead though, I'm pretty sure. Didn't Sam just say Alliser was wounded and that's it? I'm also confused why the Nights Watch isn't teaming up with Mance Rayder's army. The videos on the histories and lore of Westeros said that thousands of years ago, the Starks and the Free Folk got together to repel the White Walkers and then built the Wall, then put the free folk on the other side of the wall. I don't think the reason for the battle was explained clearly at all.
