I tend to think guys that project to be MLB fringe starters/role players don't get much credit if they have limited upside. Luhnow seems to pick his places for upside instead opting for less risky guys.
I think they are rich at corner positions too (Springer, Santana, Grossman, Hoes, Presley has been a nice bench guy, etc) and who knows how well these guys in the Luhnow drafts will develop he's shown he can find serviceable players who helped the Cardinals win championships in the draft. I don't believe GM's draft for need in baseball. I think they take the BPA on their boards as they go through evaluations with scouts, analytics guys, coaches, etc
I've only thought of Santana as the future everyday LF starting for atleast the next 7 seasons come October. He has dominated every level of the minors (and is now a AAA all-star)
Not counting most recent draft, Astros have Dominguez and Ruiz at 3B. White has been good, but he has a ways before I think he's Projected as a MLB player. Singleton is it for 1B. Gregor is still a way from being considered anything but replacement level. OF corners have Santana, Tucker, Grossman. A lot of risk here. DH generally comes from a corner position as well. I have less faith in Teoscar, Hoes, Presley, Danry than I do the middle IF prospects as far as being solid role player level. I see Springer as an up the middle guy who will most likely play a corner OF spot because the CFs are better than the corner OFs. This recent draft added a lot of upside to the corners. Catcher is the only weak spot up the middle, but I think Castro/stassi will be average.
Post #794 I'm not here trying to bye a know it all, I figured that the poster was not aware he moved back to CF.
To post #809 I think Castro's value and Corporan's as well behind the plate this year has been outstanding. This is a rotation of B+ talent (one of which is having a worthy all-star year) and a discarded group of vets that are all pitching themselves into contract offers and trade offers I'm certain of. Castro's offense this year is not as consistent but I think he could still easily be on par with .280 15 hr 60-70 rbi I like all I read at Astros County on Stassi (probably the gem of the Lowrie trade). I think all of the positions have either a strong everyday player who's going to remain under team control for another 4+ seasons or a strong prospect that is banging on the door in the minor leagues too fill that spot. At some positions I feel there is both. A superstar and an average everyday worthy player relegated too being a reserve. I think if this team calls up Santana and Folty and they have a quick learning curve and this team nears .500 it would be a fun July, August, September. Adding this draft class too the already #1 BA ranked farm system is so exciting. Astros are building a sustainable team that I can't fathom not being loaded with Top 10 prospects from top too bottom on the 25 man roster over the next 2-3 years and becoming a championship level team possibly even sooner. The waves of talent in the minors coming up is outstanding. Plus .500 clubs at AAA, AA, High and Low A. A cornerstone of guys like Correa, Springer, Aiken, Singleton, Altuve, Castro) you pay and an interchangeable sum of parts of average to above average players that play their way through your system into free agency or get dealt for another high end prospect and can be replaced with a developed talent from these drafts. This model would never fail. As long as Luhnow keeps getting so many picks right. Winning, attendance and revenue will increase and I think Crane is fine writing a few 100$ million + contracts in the next 4-8 years too retain it.
