Folty was straight out of high school. Appel was supposed to be the polished college arm that would advance through the minors quickly with 3 plus pitches.
So Jiovanni Mier can't be too comfortable right now... not that he should have been in the past couple of years. Correa, no matter how you dice it, has been hot in his past 7, 10, 15, 25 games. Regardless as to how you cut his splits, they just look incredible. Particularly in his past 10 games, Correa has a triple slash of .447/.553/.711 for an OPS of 1.264 while slugging 3 homers with 13 RBI. Even though strikeouts have never been too much of a concern, seeing his 8:5 BB/K ratio over the stretch is a fantastic sign. Mier, the short stop above him in AA (what a terrible pick), has 6 RBI in his past 28 games with a triple slash of .180/.267/.225. Those numbers are just disgusting. I will point out that his BABip is .219, bu that is just a month of terrible play. So... again, how long should we have to wait for Correa to get the call up? Hopefully the front office will consider next week's Hooks game in Houston a possible debut for Correa.
There is usually a minor league roster shuffling that happens between the draft and the start of the short summer seasons. At about that time, the "long" minor league teams also are at or near their mid season / allstar breaks as well.
Correa is better than anything that has been at SS. Fowler Altuve Singleton Springer Correa Castro Dominguez Santana Grossman. We could have that in September. Please Lunhow. The kid is good.
It doesn't even matter that Mier is struggling. Nobody was going to be blocking Correa. The one thing Correa hasn't shown enough of is power, but I'm all for fast tracking him. I think this team needs to be thinking about potential playoffs next season.
He has solid natural power already, but so far he hasn't demonstrated the ability to consistently drive the ball. That will develop in time though, his frame will fill out too. I hope they give him chance to start next season. This ball is rolling now, playoffs aren't a pipe dream. He is already our best SS, no more of this super 2 grab a$$. Put the best product on the field.
If the starting pitching keeps as is, then they have a shot. They need one more big bat, and I wouldn't mind trading a few prospects for a better hitting LF'er.
They should just jump him up to the big leagues. Kid has been hitting almost 500 his last 10 games, and it was said that he was the best player at ST. Put him in the bigs as your every day SS, and let him develop that way. If the kid is so good, an early promotion shouldn't stop his growth.
