Well, when I bother to take the time to actually watch a game, I have to have someone I want to win. Thats just how I roll. I dont expect or care if you do as well, just recognize that not everyone looks at things like you do. Well, yeah....Dallas sucks, they are fake Texans....basically South Oklahoma. and dirty little secret time....I kinda rooted for Dallas against the Heat that year....but NOT ACTIVELY!!!!
I am not rooting for anyone, but I will get excited if a great basketball play is made from either team. Just watching as an NBA fan.
I used to hate DAL as a city and sports-wise. Now it's only sports-wise. Although I did cheer for them against MIA. Their missing the Finals would've been better, but I took the lesser of 2 evils. Was upset with the way Bron left CLE... now I'm over it. btw- Spurs are one of our rivals regardless of recent history. A rival is a rival is a rival. Cool talking to a Clutch Crew member. Enjoyed.
No, it just means that I'm unsure. Some of us actually bet decent money on these games so it's not something to take lightly. Nobody on ClutchFans had a more accurate prediction of the outcome of the NBA Finals last year than me: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=7992524&postcount=82 At least you voted in the poll and made a prediction this year, because you were too scared to vote and make one last season during the Finals.
Good luck on your bets. Both teams seem evenly matched, so Spurs in 7 makes sense. Or maybe I just didn't care enough to offer an opinion. Looking back, I wasn't posting all that much in NBA Dish around this time last year.
Guess who has a similar prediction to me? Here's what Zach Lowe has to say: http://grantland.com/features/nba-finals-preview-heat-spurs-2014/ I guess we should put out a CYA alert for him too.
This is a toss up series; don't worry about being ambivalent. In truth, everyone is. Two great teams, evenly matched, festering health problems on both sides, impossible to call with confidence.
Zach Lowe is always measured and nuanced in his analyses. It's not CYA in his case. Lets just say you have a different style.
Why do you think that is perennial loser? Plenty of teams won with two stars with a bunch of very good role players. The problem with us is that our two stars aren't as elite as those of some other teams in the past. I hope no team hordes three franchise level stars ever.
Good for you. You obviously care a lot about your reputation in this regard. I don't take this stuff as seriously as you do, at least not in recent years. I just think its funny how you can proclaim the Spurs are done and argue all season how overrated they are, and then pick them to win the Finals.
R2K is aces, and I feel much the same way he does. I noticed I have you on ignore, by the way, and since I can't recall why, I'm taking you off. It's Christmas in June! ;-)-
I don't lock myself into any position. When things change, I adapt and I don't allow my emotions to get the best of me, which is one quick way to go broke. Yes, when I risk money, I do take what I do seriously. Also, Spurs still haven't played anyone yet and have been able to keep the mpg of their players low for the regular season and post-season so far and they just need to grind out 4 more victories with hca and a deeper team than last year. There's a reason they're favored to win over Miami.
I completely agree with your post. Not a fan of Miami at all, and I really appreciate the "classic" low-key style of basketball that the Spurs play. Here's to a Spurs victory. And, for those who thing cheering for the S.A. is somehow denying the Rockets... ludicrous.
Nuance in analysis is much more impressive than pure predictions. I entered a TheBasketballJones contest in 2010 for the playoffs where you bet every game in the playoffs against the spread. I finished first with like a 65% winning percentage IIRC. Won a cool pair of headphones out of it. I knew absolutely nothing about basketball compared to what I know now. It was basically blind luck with a little bit of knowledge.
I'm surprised that Vegas and the NBA commentariat are favoring the Spurs to win. Among the ESPN experts, I think the Spurs have twice as many picking them to win as compared to the Heat. I frankly don't understand it. The Spurs did not overwhelm Dallas or OKC and you could make the argument that had Ibaka been healthy, the Spurs would've likely lost in the conference final. The Heat are in a much better position to win this year's finals than they were last year. Dwayne Wade is a lot healthier. Chris Bosh has a better ability to stretch the floor. The Heat are well rested as they have only played 15 games in this year's playoffs. The Spurs have played 3 more games and had 2 grueling series. The Heat are rebounding the ball much better than they did in last year's playoffs. Lebron has had help from his supporting cast in 10 or so of the team's playoff wins and even in 1 of their 3 losses. As good as the Spurs are the Heat are a bad matchup for them because the Heat have a solid bench that can hold its own against the Spurs and they have Lebron. I like the Heat in 6 games, but I find it hard to understand why the opinions aren't more split. It's pretty much 70-30 Spurs.
Yeah but Portland/Dallas was better than any team the Heat have played. It's kind of hard to really judge. The Heat's defense hasn't been impressive at all against pretty mediocre offensive units too.
