I think this move shows that Morey is very confident that he will get his third star this offseason. He probably has a very strong inclination or maybe even a form of agreement from a third star that he will come to Houston. I don't mean to over speculate but it almost seems for certain that Morey knows more than he lets on and is thus making the moves to see it through. By declining Parsons' option, Morey is letting the market dictate Parsons' price while having control of whether to match or not. At the same time, Morey has always been mindful of the 2015 offseason and having as much cap as possible for that time, but retaining Parsons would destroy that scenario. So why would Morey ruin the 2015 offseason scenario? I believe he knows that he can get his third star this offseason. I also believe that Morey has plans to deal with Lin/Asik for cap money. Declining Parsons' option also opens up sign and trade possibilities. And it makes for trading to be easier. If a deal is centered around Parsons for a Melo/Love; it would be easier trade Parsons if he was on a 8-10 million per year than on his current deal because then the. Rockets would have to add more salary to make the deal possible. I believe that Melo is coming to Houston and Morey strongly believes it to be so. Lebron/Bosh aren't going anywhere unless Miami implodes in the Finals. And, I don't think the Rockets can make a strong enough deal for Love with some teams like the Celtics rumored to offer their lottery pick for him. And if Boston gets Love, they will not trade Rondo so the only Melo remains as the big ticket free agent. A Lin, Parsons, draft picks and filler for Melo and filler seems very logical for both teams and Asik for draft pick and/or salary space is also very likely.
How is it possible for you to be wrong literally all the time. Carmelo plays the 4 position now. Parsons plays SF. Neither would be coming off the bench.
Really? What's our system? He's played the 4 the past two years, coincidentally also his best two years. If the Rockets sign Melo, that's obviously the position he'll be at.
Melo played the 4 because the east plays small ball. The West is the complete opposite. He would get eaten alive by LMA, Blake, Dirk, etc..
I don't think its that obvious...Maybe if we keep Parsons, but ideally you make him a three and get a real 4. With no Asik, we can't afford to put so much pressure on Dwight.
If one of the other teams signs contract with Parsons, how long is the deadline for rockets to match? If it is not long, then there is a good chance for the rockets to lose him with nothing in return. The reason is that rockets can not give out a contract like that big before locks a third star.
So is it the Rockets system or the fact that they play in the West? Anyway -keeping in mind the Knicks also played Western Conference teams all the time - here's who he had to put up with in the East: West, Nene, Gibson/Boozer, Monroe, Millsap. Those aren't smallball players. Uh, no. Ideally, you play Melo at the 4 because he plays best at that position both on offense and defense. There will be much more pressure on Dwight having two turnstiles in Harden and Melo on the perimeter rather than having Melo use his good qualities - strength and aggression - at PF. Again, cyberx has no clue what he's talking about.
They have 3 days to match, however, most big FA signing go down on the first few days anyway, so realistically it doesn't matter, they can match a max offer sheet for Parsons for all they care . Having said that, I totally don't see Melo coming to the Rockets for a lot of reasons. and it's probably for the better.
Yes, exactly. Ideally, i'd prefer Harden/Love over Melo/Love. Actually, i'm not too sure I would. Tough choice really... Would you rather have Love/Melo or Love/Harden ?
I think people are just over-analyzing it. The key is to get Parsons to agree to a contract that's below market value, which he probably also has agreed. It's a win-win for Morey and Parsons, really. Resigning Parsons to a good contract just means that Morey gets to control his asset in the long run. As long as Parsons plays above his contract value, he can easily be traded any time starting the mid-season. Of course Morey will stay opportunistic, but if nothing happens this offseason, don't be surprised to see Morey sending some combination of Parsons, Lin, Asik, and Jones away for a star in the mid-season trade deadline.
Please DO NOT let others include JR Smith. We CANNOT let JR Smith and James Harden get together. That would be very very bad. JR Smith can be very good but he cannot be part of any potential carmelo anthony trade.
