Rockets can get Melo and still start Parsons. Just have Melo play PF, which he has excelled at the last 2 years and which is better for Houston's spacing anyway. Alternatively, you can start both Melo and Parsons on the wings. Just trade Harden for Love.
Why are you people so stingy with Les Alexander's money? It's not like you people get to spend it on drugs and hoes if Les doesn't pay Parsons.
Its pretty clear Parsons wants to a part of the big three. Hell, he probably thought we already had a big three. There's a level of confidence in Parsons that doesn't quite match his game.
He can help the 2nd unit like Lin did. What's the big problemo? He can just play 20-30 mpg as opposed to 40+. He shouldn't think of it like a demotion.
Theoretically though, us getting Melo should not mean that Parsons must come off the bench - Melo would surely play the 4 in our system, no? Of course your opinion is always respected cyber. And thanks again for the info.
Now that I think about it Morey will not have any problem attaching T. Jones to any deal that we need to to clear up the necessary space for Melo (or other 3rd max guy).
This will make or break this team. There are two options here: 1) we make a run at Melo and sign Parsons with his Bird rights. This requires foreknowledge that we can get a deal with NYK done. 2) we trade Parsons on draft night. Anything else, and we run the risk of losing Parsons for nothing or locking him into a contract that prevents us from getting a 3rd star.....neither is acceptable. We may have promised Parsons this, but that doesn't mean he will be on this team.
How do we trade him on draft night? If we match an offer Parsons is ours until December 19th if I recall correctly.
I'd much rather have Love/Melo than Harden/Melo - Love/Melo would be a much better fit. If Morey could get Melo, I'd have no problem with trading Harden for Love.
His option isn't acted upon until after the draft. we can trade him today and and new team would have the option of exercising or declining his option by June 30.
Melo is over 5 years older than James harden. That's five years closer to declining, and a considerably larger max salary. Not worth the perceived upgrade. Edit: I'm an idiot
The posts compared Love/Melo with Harden/Melo. Given that Melo is in both combo, his age isn't relevant to the comparison.
