Technically I guess not, but that seems to be sort of like circumvention. (which would be hilarious because I believe a lot of the new rules for S&T's are a direct result of the Melo trade from Denver, or that was the final straw from owners to make changes with S&T's)

How old are you? 15? 19? I'm speculating as to this all being a pre-arranged deal happening behind closed doors. It's all business. Business, in most cases, is predicated on relationships.
Parsons absolutely WANTS this to happen. He's dancing in his living room right now because either way he gets to get paid a year early now which is exactly the type of thing Fegan (his agent) told Morey was something they wanted for Parsons if they persuaded Dwight to sign with Houston. This is very good for Chandler. Its the difference between 900K and potentially 10 million dollars next year or more.
I don't think so. The value of a sign and trade is that a player can sign for an amount that puts the team above the salary cap up to the max individual salary and then trade him. They have to take back roughly equivalent salary for the first year but can wipe out the long-term commitment in future years. As an example, if Houston hypothetically wanted to get rid of Dwight Howard, they could trade him to the Knicks for Amare Stoudemire. Amare makes $21 mill for only 1 year. Howard makes $20 mill for 4 years. That trade is valid per the NBA trade machine. In that scenario, the two teams exchange equal salaries for the first year, but then the Knicks would owe Howard $60 mill for the remaining 3 years while Houston would have $0 in obligations after Amare's 1 year contract expires.
I want him to stay. He's worth being here. And if he's no longer the third option on the team next year so be it. He may revert back to his rookie year and be the 4th or 5th man filler like Battier used to be. Still did great work.
Well no I understand him wanting more money. I would too. But to let him leave after doing a that to make another team better? I'd rather let him grow more with the same unit than blow it up and send away our third best player.

They aren't letting him leave. Restricted free agency is what is happening... restricted meaning the Rockets have the ability to match the offer. This typically means that the team doesn't want the player to leave. In this situation there could be other factors in player, but normally this means the team wants that player long term, and they want him at a better rate than they'd get the following year.
I know what restricted means. But I'm talking about how the fans are saying we should let him leave or trade him for a better player. I don't see why not just let him play the filler

The Rockets as a non tax paying team are limited to maximum incoming salary (Melo's) of 125% of the outgoing salary (Lin/Asik), plus $100,000. Backing into that number, the Rockets would need to send out ~17.8 million to be able to receive Melo's SnT'ed max. Lin and Asik is 16.7m, so you need to add one of Dmo/Jones or Covington AND Casspi.
