Yep, thought about that. Depending on how you value Altuve's basestealing ability, it helps having a guy like Fowler hitting 2nd, but I tend to agree with you.

Yep. I think Fowler is probably gone next year by the deadline. Bring DeShields up, hit him 8th/9th and put him in CF.

    Opening Day 2016
    Altuve
    Correa
    Singleton
    Springer
    Castro
    Dominguez
    Tucker (DH)
    Santana
    DeShields

Ultimately I'd like to have a more established bat to put in LF but this future lineup is pretty salty regardless.

Even if he could, those policies are almost impossible to collect on. Barring amputation, or something close to it.

I think that lineup is entirely possible, and wow... we could have 8 of 9 players make their major league debut for Houston. That is some home grown talent.

I don't know much about DeShields but I like Fowler. Is DeShields any good?

Bud's a dumbass. If it was Springer, Folty, Correa - someone with no character flaws and talent - I would agree that it's a bad deal. Guess what Bud? Their agent would have too. But with a pothead first baseman that has feast or famine written all over him, it's a guaranteed pay day with the opportunity to still get a big contract on the back end. Hell Bud, I'd go a step further. Your boy Grossman was a flipping idiot for not taking the money and now he's saved the Astros from a bad investment while pissing away his opportunity at financial freedom.

Well, now at least we can see where the negative pub from the recent articles was based. No one likes it when a new kid with strange ideas comes mucking about with their beloved baseball. But in 3-5 years when the team is a juggernaut with a middling payroll, everyone is going to want to copy his style.

[rhetorical question] Why is it that if a group of owners get together to "influence" another owner on a particular contract, they can be charged with collusion, yet the player's association can do all they can to influence a player?

I like Fowler as well but you have to think about maximizing the return for him when we might not have the funds yet to give him a new deal come 2015. You would have to think his contract would start north of $10MM a year. DeShields will provide a young, cheap replacement who will get on base at a decent clip (probably .350 at the beginning) and steal a lot of bases. He also even brings a bit of pop.

If we somehow do trade some of our top prospects for an established bat then I would like to save the money we would have to pay Fowler and try and restock the system a little bit. It is a good way to do business.

Bud Norris needs to worry about his own team and not the Astros. He screamed about wanting out for 3yrs and we trade him and he still won't let it go.

Any interviews with Singleton yet? I'm curious how he's handling all of this media scrutiny.

Bud Norris had no business chiming in on Singleton's deal. The fact that he's more concerned with this situation than his own right now is telling. If I'm the Orioles, I'm telling Norris to pipe down about the Astros. Everyone knows he doesn't agree with the way the Astros do business, but he's not on the team anymore.

I can't help but think that Luhnow has created some metrics on players age 30+ and how big money deals have fared. I think he'd rather lose free agents in that age range and get a supplemental pick rather than sign guys to big money deals. I guess we'll know in about 6 years.

Jon Singleton will make in 5 years what Bud Norris made in 6 seasons.

Provided his career doesn't go up in smoke.

Personally, I think all players make too damn much money. So whatever he got or didn't get doesn't matter to me.

If we have a succession of busts get handed out contracts like this it could hurt us in the long run.

umm..... if we have a succession of busts we're screwed regardless of their contracts. So what exactly is your point other than inserting an overused cheech and chong quote?
