Spent many an evening there when I was 16 with my terrible flea market fake ID. When it finally got raided, it was full and there were like 2 people there who were not underage.

Yeah but they moved it to I-10 and 99 in that shopping center a few years ago. They just made it 21+ so it should be better. It is pretty nice for a country bar.

I drove by on accident. I had no idea what Katy had going out there. It's like another, new, terrible, terrible planet I would hate to live in. A Carcosa if you will. I'd rather lose one of my balls than have to sit in traffic for 1.5hrs and go home to that after happy hour at Chili's.

Best part was college kids lived in the house and Gattis was just like the bottom living and dinning room portion. Weird/interesting setup.

Since everyone is now listing every obscure place they can think of, I'll pay homage to an old ice house and biker bar that we used to frequent; The Blue Bird at the corner of Almeda Genoa and Telephone Road. You could always find trouble there and just about anything else you might want.

It's still visible on Google maps but is now called Paul Ice House...

Telephone Rd. had (and maybe still has) a bad reputation back in the day. My friends and I had a lot of adventures around there as well. What was funny about the Tel-Wink was that you'd go there with your grandmother and aunts during the day on a weekend for lunch (great food, as I recall), and then go back to the place at 1am or 2am at night, or later, and there would be "ladies of the evening" sitting at the counter, right next to cops. It was a real trip. Don't know what the current Tel-Wink is like, or if it's open 24 hours like it used to be. In the area was Golfcrest Country Club, Golfcrest Hardware, and Golfcrest Elementary. A great bakery was by Golfcrest Hardware. We used to go there on Saturday morning and get fresh white bread, still warm, and slathered butter all over it. Made for a great breakfast! They also had wonderful kolaches. Can't remember its name, though.

Also still remember Youngblood's Fried Chicken, not too far from the same area, towards Palm Center. Killer fried chicken and fabulous onion rings!

The Hickory Stick BBQ on Telephone Rd. was very good. Heck, there were (are?) a bunch of good eateries on Telephone back in the day. A very romantic Italian place was across the street from the Hickory Stick, back in some trees. I used to take dates there. Can't recall the name, but the food was good. At night the light was mostly from candles on the tables. It was hard to read the menu! Perfect on a Friday or Saturday night.

I could've sworn there was a Dirty's around Chimney Rock, Fondren, or Hillcroft near Bellaire or the SW Freeway. Was this a chain or am I mis-remembering?
