I wonder how many people that voted "I love my job" is in some sort of managerial role.

I'd be one of those guys. I answered understanding "love" is relative when it comes to jobs. I'd rather be drinking scotch and playing with puppies for a living.

I was let go of my job for the last 7 years 2 weeks ago today. There was some relief because I was not happy and things were only going down hill. On the other hand, my wife is still looking for her first full time teaching job and we were left with no insurance immediately. I've got things taken care of on that end and am now consulting at a competing company, but I'm still feeling bitter about the way I was treated. Not sure what's next but I'm positive it will be better.

    Eeeh.

Its ok, not the most stimulating job on earth, but as long as our client continues to bring in material, I have a job.

I would have to really screw the pooch to get fired(dfin!!!), so I have job security and thats a good thing.

No insurance, no paid vacations, no retirement of any kind....but since we pretty much run the company I can do what I like as long as the work gets done. Unfortunately, we have been so busy lately I end up working lots of 12s.

My field is marketing. I don't define my job by industry and have worked in several industries. If I work in O&G I say I do marketing, not O&G.

I've only worked with my current company for about 6 weeks. But the pay has been decent being commission based, and the control we get to manage our stores is awesome.

Working as a moderator doesn't seem so lucrative after all.

If I was paid about $10k more, I'd almost go with like it. I certainly don't dread it, but that's just more because I'm so happy in the other aspects of my life. Nothing like going home to an amazing wife and daughter to make the rest of it not really matter. We just moved into an awesome new office building, so that's kinda sweet.

I'm already the best. Can't better myself anymore. Besides, unless I'm going for an MBA (and I won't - too lazy), more classes won't help.

That sucks. I had a similar situation last year. Got a new position and a modest raise, then the position turned out to be something totally different than the position I accepted. I did my time for a year (company requirement) before posting out and finding my current position with the same company.

One of the advantages to working for a HUGE company is there are always opportunities for advancement. And they prefer hiring internally over externally.

Another advantage is most people here are cool with staying where they are for a long time. Which makes it easier for someone like me who is always looking for the next step. I've been here since 2002 and I've accepted 6 or 7 new positions since my start date. Slowly working my way up from entry-level to marketing project manager - all with a degree in music and no marketing experience at all.

I love it. Although unfortunately it isn't a career. But it can turn into one. We shall see.

For the people that didn't post what you did: can you?

It'd be nice to have a job title matched to the comment of "I dislike it" or "I like it." Gives the rest of us some perspective (and also might help us avoid pitfalls like going into that job? idk.)

It would only be lucrative if I got paid per stupid post I have to read in GARM.

For me that would be tough....Im either a petrochemical inspector or a lab technician, depends on what part of my day you are talking about.

If you were to become an inspector at a large company like Saybolt, Caleb Brett or Inspectorate the job is actually not that bad as long as you dont mind getting a little dirty. You basically gauge and sample the liquid product carried in barges, tanks or vessels and take the sample to the lab for testing or retention.

Since I work for a small company with only a couple of clients, I do the sampling work AND the lab work.

This I used to really like my job even with a godawful commute now we have a new CEO who is a micro managing, overreacting, can't make a decision, throws everyone under the boss, non supporting POS. My direct boss who I love came to my office in tears over this guy and I had to talk her down off the ledge of just walking out.

We have amazing benefits and great salaries so I plan to try and ride it out.

But yeah I relentlessly check mint.com and MMM trying to figure out how soon I can stop working.

I'm an accounting manger BTW who chose meh.
