The "Love guaranteed to Boston" reminds me of how sure everyone was that Dwight would re-sign with the Lakers. It's the big market obsession but when you sit down and look at it, the Rockets are better positioned to contend for years. Not saying he WILL come here or we are even on his short list, lets just not take the national media at their word here.
I have no idea why he would go to Boston. Rondo and Love? That's not going to beat LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. Hell that might not even beat the Pacers, when they figure out their mess.
How on earth can you believe they'd trade an all nba player from a non playoff team and have the goal of the playoffs in mind?!?
Boston itself is a draw. It's a historic franchise with a dedicated fanbase. Teaming up Rondo and Love, both young and exciting players, would be an additional draw. Trading for Love isn't the final move for a championship, it's the first.
If the goal of every player was to be on a team that could beat Lebron and co. than everyone would be playing on min. contracts on the Spurs, Rockets, or Thunder. When Dwight signed with Houston, even though he said the word championship in the presser he and everyone else knew it was still a few moves and years away from being a realistic possibility without a little luck. There has to be more to Kevin Love or any major potential free agents decision making than just teaming up for titles.
Rondo isn't young and they are years and years away from contending. Boston will have to trade this years pick as well as other first round picks limiting their ability to surround Love with talent. Why would love want to go there?
I think its a little different when its the East you are joining. You're almost guaranteed to match up with LeBron and the Heat in the playoffs, whereas in the West you have far bigger problems before you even think about meeting up with the Heat.
If you were a premier free agent, would you rather join Harden, Howard, and the Rockets in the West or Robdo, Love, and the Celtics in the East? I would think the Celtics would be the more attractive option.
Its just my opinion, but I think its a little naive to think that the one and only goal of a young upcoming free agent is to just beat the Heat. Like I said, if that's his or anyone else's only goal, why aren't they signing with the Spurs for the minimum or the MLE? -Also, are we entirely sure that Lebron and the Heat's window to continue to dominate in the East is that much longer? If you are a young star, I'd think that you are projecting a partnership with an organization for 5 to 10 years. Ex: I think the downfall of the Pacers locker room has a lot to do with grading too much of their success on just beating the Heat. They are a young team that should be focused on establishing a culture to compete for 10 more years, but they lost their identity when their egos drove them to think too much about being better than Lebron in January of 2014 instead of worrying about building something for the future. The Pacers should be a team that gets better and better every year, but instead I think it ends up getting worse because of this impatience to beat the Heat right now. However you could make a case that Love and the Celtics have a pretty good starting point anyway, and its not like Ainge hasn't been in the exact same situation 7 years ago and flipped his team to build a contender overnight with probably less assets. If you think Ainge's pitch to Love is that its him and Rondo and scrubs that will beat the Heat than that's a pretty sorry pitch, but I dont think that's Ainge's end game at all & he does have the tools to make more than 1 trade. I hate to make it sound as though I'm rooting for the Rockets to lose out on a Kevin Love trade in order for the Celtics to win love in a trade & sign, but I hope people can be a little more realistic with Kevin Love's holistic priorities, his true leverage & want to nix a Celtics trade(if it was to happen this Summer), and the gamble Ainge would be taking.
you think Danny, Love, rondo, and the avg. celtic fan doesn’t know this ? Maybe not because rockets organization threw a party during the summer outside the Toyota center when howard signed with 1,000s of fans like they had won the championship or something. But love was an All star (starter) this year, rondo is a proven playoff floor general, & tough allstar. So one could argue which combo is better out of them and H&H.. neither is clear day & night. J. Green is right there with parsons with more VET experience just worse contract. Same goes for Sullinger/olynx & jones/dmo all are on rookie contracts and you could argue whos bettre combo… Bradley > bev… Do we give lin 6th man the edge on them as a team in general ??? that’s only difference I see bayless< lin & FYI trying to get ASIK is there next move if they can get LOVE. Stevens/mchale ?? Their fans talk about asik just as much as they talk about love.
I am guessing that Love wants to be a leader in Boston, not a number 3 guy on the rockets. Love is still too young to chase a ring by playing a role like Bosh in Heat. By the way, he does not think Howard and Harden are a big time winners according to our insider, so logically he is going to Boston.
I wouldn't read too much into what Cyberx is hearing about Love's thoughts on H&H. Keep in mind that its all political games to agents & the players to get where they want. Cyberx most likely isn't lieing... he's just filling you in on the game. There is no reason why Love wouldn't jump for joy if he's traded to Houston, but the past 6 weeks going into Summer trade season is a big Frank Underwood type of game for Love to get where he wants to go in the scenario him and his people want to be in. The sports agent game is Chess not Checkers. Always keep that in mind. In the coming weeks if Morey gets close to making a play for Kevin Love dont get shocked if Love's people release more "feelings" about the Rockets to try and push them off the trading table. However look at Dwight Howard as the ultimate example. He tried to deter the Rockets for years because he had another destination in mind, but in the end when it came down to the Rockets being the best case scenario, he took the job offer and he seems happy as hell.
I do think his agent had a lot to do with that. His agent and Cuban are tight. Not tough to whisper in your client's ear about the Mavericks when they were only a season removed from winning the championship. EDIT: Hell, supposedly when he talked with Kelvin Cato (how long ago was it?) and Cato was saying how Houston takes care of their big men, Howard actually did not know jack-squat about our team and who was on it. (Don't make me go find the link, I am that lazy.)
Exactly. That's why I'd tell people now that if they hear something about Kevin Love's "feeling" about Harden & Howard, I'd take it with a grain of salt or view it more as a poker move. Its politics.
CBS Report Kevin Love prefers Warriors over Rockets if traded http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on...-love-prefers-warriors-over-rockets-if-traded via http://cbssportsapp.com
Rich Bucher works for the Warriors basically(he's a sideline broadcaster for their local games) & probably a good majority of the readers that view his daily columns are in the Bay Area. Bucher wants page clicks on his column... Please dont bother helping him get his by clicking this link.
I don't have any trouble believing Love may prefer the Warriors. Don't even see the big deal with it frankly. Here's what Love wants: To win a championship next season playing for the Lakers while averaging 35 points a game on about 22 shots while being the #1 offensive option while his teammates play defense and feed him the ball on offense and re-sign a fresh max contract for 5 years with max 7.5% raises. Now.............that's what Love wants. So..he's not going to get everything he wants. So....there's 2 questions here. What are Love's priorities? How much of Love's pipedream can he get? * Location? * Shots (role)? * Championships? * Max max contract? What can he get? What are his priorities? I don't think we know the order of his priorities. Nor do we know for sure how much of what he wants can he get by forcing a trade.
