Toobin is a Constitutional scholar and the DoJ work for Obama........

    haha what a loaded question.

I am for bringing back soldiers legally and assuming it doesn't come at the expense of thousands of American lives. What will your stance be mark when these released Taliban leaders are responsible for more American deaths?

You didn't answer the question. Why are you against saving American POWs? We don't leave Americans behind.

It was absolutely the right thing to do.

What "more Americans" are we going to bring home? He was the only POW out there.

Why don't you just say it. Release all Gitmo detainees and shut it down. That's what it's really about, isn't it?

You people don't understand, we have been reviewing EVERY detainee's case for years and evaluating them for release. We have already let go most of those deemed "low risk", and of those there is a very high rate of recapture and rejoining the BGs on the battlefield even among that group. The "high risk" guys are the ones we can NEVER release, they will certainly rejoin the jihad if released. They WILL return to their previous jobs of killing infidels, it's what they live for. In their minds to do anything else would be a betrayal of their sacred duty to Allah.

And you want to let them go. But when they rejoin the jihad and kill more Americans will you take any responsibility? Of course not. You will find SOME way to blame it on someone else, you always do.

Why don't you just visit your nearest veterans' cemetery and **** all over the graves of those who died in the GWOT? Their sacrifice means NOTHING if we just pi$$ away the fruits of their labor.

I am curious what the stance of all these supporters is gonna be when these Taliban leaders contribute to more American deaths. Will they still claim this was a good call?

A statement from the the Home town of Bowe Bergdahl.

City of Hailey asks folks not to pre-judge Bergdahl

"The City of Hailey is very pleased with the release of Bowe Bergdahl from captivity. For these past nearly five years, the City of Hailey has stood by Bowe Bergdahl's family in their quest to bring their son home."

"That day has arrived, and the City of Hailey can take comfort that Bowe Bergdahl has been returned. Past Bowe Bergdahl celebrations in Hailey have focused on bringing this soldier home. For the men and women who choose to serve, the City of Hailey believes we do not leave our soldiers behind. Bowe Bergdahl's family is a part of our community."

"We celebrate the return of their son to his hometown. The City of Hailey has received many phone calls and e-mails on the extreme polar sides of Bowe Bergdahl's release. There are those who have negative opinions about the release of Bowe Bergdahl and the City of Hailey's planned celebration of the return of this young man to his hometown."

Some of these negative e-mails do raise some very important points. If objective facts and a careful investigation reveal that Bowe Bergdahl should face consequences in a United States Courtroom, then the United States should do what it believes is necessary."

"On the otherhand, if the same investigation shows that there is no evidence to support any action, then the process has worked, and people should take comfort that due process has been served. The City of Hailey respectfully requests that people do not pre-judge this young man. The City of Hailey believes in due process, and we are very happy to let the process unfold. In the meantime, our celebration will focus on Bowe Bergdahl's release and the relief of his family and those who live here."

What if after years in captivity in Guantanamo Bay, we were able to turn the five Taliban hostages into five Reeks!

Maybe they are ours now, ready to release to do our bidding.

Did we initiate this or did they?

I have no problem leaving a deserter behind. A handful died already for this douchebag.

Unfortunately it's not up to you, and thankfully so. The pow should stand trial for his alleged crime, but we as a country have no right to abandon one of the boys we send over there to die. Maybe he couldn't hack it, maybe he was scared, maybe he was crazy, maybe he went native, hell I have no idea. Whatever happened, he should answer for that, but we don't leave him behind.

Agreed, we shouldn't abandon him, we should try him and execute him.

And I can agree with this - to a point.

As I said in my first post in this thread I have mixed feelings about this case. Even if he deserted, forsook his oath.. I cannot fathom the USA abandoning American citizens to those animals. And they ARE animals. They are freaking savages. These are people who gleefully saw peoples' heads off with rusty knives for YouTube pleasure if they don't have the bargaining value an American soldier has. I don't want ANY US citizen to be stuck with them for the rest of his life.

And as much of a douchebag as his father seems to be, I don't want ANY parent of a soldier to have to endure having their child in that situation. So, on that score, I am glad to see him home.

I also want him to face the music for desertion. In a just world, he would, but we of course do not live in a just world. Political considerations will take precedence over justice as they usually do.

But the price... It is unarguably (despite Dubious's attempts) VERY high. The guys we released were people the Taliban/Haqqani have been asking for for years. We folded. And don;t think for a minute that those guys are out of the fight - they WILL become players again. Leadership is a precious commodity for the Taliban, they asked for those guys for a reason.

This is legitimate grounds for debate. The price, that is. Trading 5 HVPs for an honorable service member who stayed true to his oath might be worth it to me. Trading them for a guy who abandoned his brothers and his oath is not. That is my opinion. You have yours as well, and neither one of us is either right or wrong, we simply have our opinions on the matter.

It's a "Yes or No" question. The fact that the answer is neither "Yes" nor "No" tells you everything you need to know about how he is really categorized.
