Hard to tell from this angle, but the head is definitely the triangle shape of a viper but did have round pupils surrounded by light grayish iris. Strange
Black Rat Snake. My parents have had more of those on their vacation house off of Canyon Lake than they have Rattlesnakes in the past 2 years. Non venomous but still scary as hell to run up on.
If you look back at the picture, it looks like he has a rat in his stomach. Looks super thick in one area.
I remember going through my snake phase as a young teenager. We actually had like 5 snakes we caught at the ditch and they were all venomous. Yet, we were pretty much handling them like they were non-venomous as we didn't know. I think I wore a sock on my arm when I handled one. But, besides always being interested in snakes at the local ditch, we were into the whole python-boa scene. My first reticulated python was a six foot terror that struck at anything and everything. I was afraid to hold it because it was so mean. I can't believe I even brought it home from the pet store. The first time I held it...it squeezed my hand really hard and struck at me. I was under the impression it was going to be semi-easy to tame. Yea...right. Even my friend's brother, who was an experienced python owner, noted it was the meanest snake he ever saw. lol So, I returned it and got a Burmese python who was super tame. Unfortunately, snakes are a pain in the ass to keep in captivity. I had to have a clamp down screen lid on the cage because it would always escape no matter what without one. It ended up rubbing it's nose raw trying to press that screen off. The cage was way bigger than the snake, too. Those snakes can get up there and push with a lot of force. So, it normally just crawled around my room and the house on occasion (when it got out of my room). But, it ended up dying from some disease it got. It would have gotten big and I was not prepared for that. My friend's brother had a huge 17' reticulated python that actually escaped. lol Yea...I don't believe in owning snakes unless you are a zoo. I learned my lesson. Not to mention the countless mice and rats the snake devoured over the years I had it. It makes me sad to this day to think back on that. I've seen some stuff involving snakes in captivity. It's just not natural if they are not in the natural wild doing their thing.
How does that make me the worst pet owner ever? That makes no sense. I was good to my pet python. Imagine trying to use an eye dropper to drop liquid food in a snakes mouth to feed it because it wouldn't eat as it was sick. Well...I did that and more. In fact, I thought I had cured my pet python as it started eating again but it died under some weird circumstances that, short of an autopsy to diagnose, was straight out of the twilight zone in my book. I think Scully and Mulder showed up on my doorstep the next day after it died to investigate. You are obviously trolling but I know I'm a good pet owner.
Yeah, ran into one a few days ago outside the barndominium. Heard a peep coming from a patch of wildflowers by the door, thought it was a baby bird. Was about a 4 foot long rat snake with a mouse or rat in it's mouth. I said "thanks bro", nudged him with a stick so he wouldn't try to go inside, and watched him slither away. Mouserat was not happy.
I do not like snakes, they are evil creatures. I don't have a phobia but the idea of snakes large enough to consume an adult human creeps me out bad. Screw Florida
Well...you did call me the "worst pet owner ever" and, as someone who has owned pets over the years and done my best to take care of them with my best effort while also suffering through the trials of animals getting sick and trying to treat them, I take offense to that. I'm not some aloof pet owner who has no clue and treats their pets like dirt. Maybe you misspoke a little and meant something else?
