You would think he could have at least negotiated much higher club options for the final 3 years.

So does Bo bat him 5th or does he split up the lefties and bat him 6th behind Dominguez?

I don't really follow the Astros. Is he a highly rated prospect?

If he comes up and takes over that first base spot and produces... this team will be incredibly interesting.

I'd have to say the Astros viewed him as their #1 prospect in terms of raw talent. Well then again I'm just basing that on how long it took them to bring up Springer. He and Singleton have been handled completely differently.

$10MM guarantees him financial freedom for life if managed properly. You generally are only going to get hugebig free agent deal anyway, so he protects his downside and still gets the opportunity for his huge deal when he's in his prime.

It's easy to say these are bad deals for the players, but the number of top tier players that never get the big money is long and ugly. We just don't remember those players because they failed and disappeared.

He's up there. Not as highly rated as Springer. He brings power and OBP to first base, though. Considering our first basemen have been sitting at .600 OPS this season, this is a big upgrade. He fits naturally at the #3 slot and eventually I expect this lineup:

    1. Altuve
    2. Fowler
    3. Singleton
    4. Springer
    5. Castro
    6. Dominguez
    7. Carter / Pressley
    8. Grossman
    9. Villar

He's a better hitter. Less power but more discipline and contact based.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Astros also offered one of these types of contracts to Grossman that he turned down. It would be interesting to see what the particulars were for his deal.

Singleton is 2 years younger than Springer.

This deal will be a fluke once the agents get together with the Players association. No way they will allow this type of deal become the norm. Too much money on the line.

We want more! He generates power effortlessly. He also doesn't look 6 ft 2, 250 when he is crouched (this is an older gif).

Depends on how you look at it. Springer's first minor league game was 2011, Singleton's 2009.
