spurs are a great organization but like it's been already said, i'm not rooting for a division/conference/state rival. also spurs fans are the worst. they wouldn't give a crap about the team if they weren't successful. most of them don't even like basketball. they talk trash about the rockets and brag about how they're a better organization than the rockets (they are, but i still don't like it). maybe it's jealousy and being a little selfish but i don't want no more texas teams winning nba championships if it aint the rockets.
So I'm sure you felt this way about the '08 Celtics too right? I swear sometimes people just pull that double standard when they did the exact same thing and with even less results (they only won one, Heat have two so far)
As much as they're rivals, I'm cheering for the Spurs in this matchup, and probably because of how we held our own against them in the regular season.
All of that...every single thing that you've said...could be applied to the Heat too. They are a team of professionals, who have stayed together for a while now, with little to no drama, and play unselfish team ball. Overhyped? People predicted the Spurs to go to the finals too...I'm very confused by all of this.
F no. I can't believe people would root for them. They are our rival. Plus I don't like them to boot. Bruce Bowen pretty much did it for me. Absolute scumbag. Parker and Duncan are super-whiners and Ginobili and Parker do a lot of flopping. How can a Rockets fan root for them?
Most of the Spurs are still playing for the team that drafted them... they are not a team of Ray Allens and Rashard Lewis' playing at min (or thereabout) with hopes of a ring... Overhyped? Cause Duncan, Parker and Ginobli are all over the tv commercials? So sick of hearing about them "taking their talent to San Antonio" all over the place since day 1....
You either cheer for the Spurs and fantastic basketball, or you cheer for the Heat and enjoy the taste if LeBrons nuts in your mouth.
I feel the same way. For example, even though I'm a UT grad, I root for the Aggies, Cougars, Red Raiders, Bears, etc. when they play an out of state team. Of course, with the Spurs I have a sentimental attachment since I'm from San Antonio. Nevertheless, my first team is Houston. The Spurs are second and the Mavs are third.
Yes, the Spurs MUST win this year or else they'll be in a vengeance again next year. Like Mark Cuban say Duncan, Ginoboli, Pop all need to win so they will happily go off into the sunset with their ring and all retire so all the other teams can still have a chance.
we don't really have a rivalry with SA IMO besides the obvious geographic factor. the last time we played them was when Dream proved the who the real MVP was and that was over a decade ago. i'm a fan of how the spurs played and the great coaching/system they have. will root for the spurs unless i have a wager on the heat lol
