Oh I agree, it helped him and really any training would help in a situation like that but without knowing anything about the guy I think it's fair to question his judgement. Of course nobody here really knows the story and how it really went down. The reporting that I've seen has been crap.

ABC13 report glass door of nearby yogurt shop was shattered. Don't know if that was due to stray bullets or people panicking and running into things or what.

Armed robbery is a serious crime and isn't something you should chalk up to "kids being kids". Unbelievable

If you are willing to use a gun to rob someone, I have no sympathy if you get killed in the process.

Saying that it's questionable for the marine to open fire in a public area under murky circumstances isn't taking sides with the Robbers.

Personally I don't feel a bit of sympathy towards the armed robbers, if you are gonna go to a mall with innocent people and rob with a deadly weapon you deserve to whatever is coming to you.

However, if the robbers were just loading the loot into their car and are about to flee, I think it's reckless and irresponsible for anyone that is not law enforcement to approach them or open fire in the public parking lot unless they were in immediete danger.

Again the reports have been sketchy as hell, nobody has said clearly what went down.

Actually, only certain billets and mos's recieve pistol training. Usually only officers, staff NCO's or unique mos's such as machine gunners since their primary weapon is a 240B(a BFG) that is too unwieldy to man in tight areas are trained in pistols.

In other words, one can not assume that since the individual was a Marine, he had any pistol training at all.

However, at the same time he would still have more advanced knowledge on weapon's safety over a regular civilian.

It's not guys like this (ex-military, trained to deal with situations) that make me nervous, it's the random Johnny Suburb who took a course and has 3 hours of range time and thinks he can do doubletaps.

    Every situation is different.

Yea, very serious. Kids do stupid thing and armed robbery is sometime that stupid thing. Kids, being young, has more potential to learn and mature. Thus for me, they are different then adult with the same crime. This is what I mean and what I said.. it's not to said the crime isn't serious and it's just kid being kid without the context.

Armed robbery isn't one of the stupid things that "kids do". Also, they weren't kids, they were adults. You are really going out of your way to make excuses for the criminals and I'm not quite sure why.

To explain, if we were talking drugs, petty theft, vandalism, or even simple assault then you can go with the "kids do the darndest things" routine, not armed robbery.

No, I suppose I should have included an earlier "Dumbasses drew on store employees" rather than just implying it by saying "Dude saw people's lives in danger". It was an armed robbery....I would have thought it was obvious that the guys who were robbing the store drew their guns....had they not drawn their guns and robbed the store, the one dumbass would still be alive and the other one wouldn't be in jail.

There are some fine distinctions here and there is also a lack of factual evidence, so I guess we should wait.

But for the sake of argument, let's say I'm an off duty cop in plain clothes and see this happening. The p***y side of me / self preservation side of me would be like "it's not my problem" and walk the other way. If I acted on the side of my training / bravery / duty, then I'd draw on them and yell at them to freeze. Now does it matter if I'm an off duty cop or former Marine? Is that the argument we're having?

Did the civilian have to yell freeze at the armed robbers? Now if he just started shooting them, I still wouldn't have sympathy for their them, but I don't know if that's right (legally and morally). It would be quite stupid to try to civilian arrest two armed robbers without having your gun drawn. Cops would have their guns drawn too.

And again, aside from my lack of sympathy, not all armed robbers auto fire when caught. Some give up. They still have the choice to give up (assuming Marine didn't open fire w/o warning, which is again up in the air bc there are no video recordings and a lack of evidence at the moment). And if these dudes were already violent (if the previous murder accusations are true), then it's only a matter of time until they engage in a gun battle.

Yea, kids do do armed robbery because they are stupid. If they aren't stupid, they would never do armed robbery. Unless you think kids never do armed robbery, then yes, armed robbery isn't one of the stupid things kids do.

Maybe not, I forgot how old they are. Kids to me is probably a different definition than your. It's not the common under 18 that everyone is used to. My definition is from science... new understanding of how brain works now said the adolescent phase is over at around age 24 on avg. --- http://www.drdansiegel.com/books/brainstorm/

I already told you what I think, I consider things like some drug offenses, vandalism, petty theft, or simple assault potentially under the umbrella of "kids do the darndest things" not things like armed robbery so obviously it wouldn't extend to murder IMO, you are the one trying to write off armed robbery as "kids will be kids" so I'm curious how far you go with it.

As far as it will take him. Then they will move onto the next weak excuse to paint the CHL holder in a bad light and the bad guy a victim.
