How did a story like this evolved from insecure penal group revenge to cult induced paralyzing fear?

You're right. I'm really proud of the fact that rape and murder don't happen in the U.S too. We're such a strong beacon of gender equality.

    Go USA!

Even the smallest crimes get the death penalty in China. So, yes, I do hope so.

But can't rich ppl buy their way out or find loopholes and/or special treatment via family/political influence. Like compensating the family and having the charges dismissed?

Yes but it's something in their code of laws, I've seen it in other developing nations, I think it's called blood money. Where you can legally reach an agreement with the victims family and have the charges dropped. We don't have that.

Yes but in the states, say I kill someone then I'll face a murder trail whereby I'll get sentenced and do time. Theoretically. Then I might pay the family compensation in a civil case but still face punishment for the murder. In some of these developing nations I can just bypass the state punishment by reaching an agreement with the victims family. And it's all nice and legal.

If you murder someone in America and your family's rich, you can bribe a judge to find you not guilty or give you a slap-on-the-wrist sentence or buy a Johnnie Cochran-like attorney to get you off on a technicality. Also, in the United States policemen can kill people on the job left and right and get off as part of doing their job and suffer no criminal penalties, while in China it's only the rich who get to do that. There's no country that has more or less justice than any other country in the world.
