There was a consensus that Bird was better until he got injured.

im sorry but I have to say no... basketball back then was a lot different than it is now... LeBron cries every game I watch him when someone breathes on him wrong, just imagine what a whiny ass baby he would've been back in the 80s when basketball was Man's sport lol...... and I don't know why everyone is comparing rings... look at the team he has, it is LOADED... in an eastern conference that is absolute crap... if his team had done the same in the west, it might be a bit of a different story.... playing in the east just with bosh and wade that's almost an automatic finals appearance but add LeBron and its a joke.. don't know how you can judge rings here... just my opinion...

It's not even close, Lebron is better by a wide margin. 56 % from the field, he is unstoppable. The best part is he makes everyone on his team better. I almost forgot the shut down defense. The only player on Lebron's level is Jordan.

Probably until 1987 when an injured Celtics team lost to the Lakers. McHale played 39 minutes a game on a broken foot and ruined his career for a chance at a ring.

Why don't you move back to Massachusetts?

Lol. He looks like he's so good in people eyes because of today's weak NBA. We have a league where Dwight is the best center and either Noah or Hibbert are number 2. These player wouldn't even be All-Stars in the 80's or 90's. Just stop it.

Lol. Ok, LeBron travels or charges on every possession. He never gets called for fouls and cries all the time to the refs when the finally do call him for one. Everyone thinks he's so great because the NBA is boring now and they need someone to pump up. He's their hype man and people love to buy into hype.

This argument is so lame. If Lebron grew up in that time period he would have flourished under those conditions. The physicality of that time period works BOTH ways. Lebron would man handle the SH** out of all of those players. There was no physical match for LBJ back then. And of course he complains and flops. ALL the stars do it now and it works so he would be putting himself at a disadvantage if he didn't do it. It sucks that the league has come to that but it is what it is.

    Bird won 3 MVP's in a row from 1984-1986.

Magic and Kareem were playing then, were they not? Bird owned them.

Bird- greatest shooter of all time, 10 rebs per game, top 10 passer of all time, decent defender (made 3 all defensive teams).

LeBron is above Magic but not Bird

Peak years for Bird and Magic:

    Bird ('84-'85): 28.7 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 6.6 APG, 52.2 FG%, 42.7 3pt%

    Magic ('86-'87): 23.9 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 12.2 APG, 52.2 FG%, 20.7 3pt%

Bird's bball iq was off the charts. He also had the grit that always willed the team to win.

I do wonder how dominant Larry would be today. I always see him as a better rebounder, better passer, better defender and a smarter version of Dirk Novitski.

i mean if u imagine him right now playing for Boston. I would kill to see him and his team reach the ECF against the big 3 of Heat (granted it's the East, more than likely he would).

I think because of longevity Lebron passing Bird is a formality at this point. Same with Magic to an extent.

It remains to be seen if Lebron could actually beat any of the top teams in the 80s. When your closest rival is the pacers, it's pretty safe to say that the nba is watered down.

Hell, I'm not sure that the heat could have dealt with the Patrick Ewing lead knicks, much less Bird's celtics or Magic's lakers, or Micheal's bulls.

I think we can easily say that Lebron/Bird/Magic are in the same level of "Greatness" currently, but since Lebron is yet to turn 30, his bound to surpass them both IF he has no major issues or personal issues that takes him out of the game for a considerable period

Bird did better on his SATs and he'll need to contract a cocktail of STDs catch magic.

LeBron would be great in any era. That's pretty easy to see.

This is stupid talk, people's style has changed because the NBA rules have changed, it's not like in a span of 20 years or so NBA players changed from rough and tough athletes to cry babies  Maybe if LBJ was some scrawny kid like Steph Curry or Aaron Brooks you can make the argument that he wouldn't be a player in the 80's, but LBJ has Karl Malone's physique so I dunno where you're talking about he wouldn't be an all star in the 80's.

In fact, if he palyed in the 80's LBJ would easily be regarded as the GOAT,unlike today he'll be allowed to use his crazy strength and speed and just be physical with everybody.

MVP is for best player in league right? Durant #1 this season and the HEAT made it to the finals again. Takes more than one person to make finals
