I think we may look back on this sale in a couple of years and say that Sterling sold at the peak and at an incredible price. This is almost 4x what the Milwaukee Bucks sold for a few years ago, which at the time was a record. This price is truly ridiculous! Thanks V Stiviano, for initiating the sale, and go have fun with your money in Vegas/Tijuana/Thailand, Don Sterling!!

If he is confirmed to having a mentally debilitating disease like Alzheimer's, do the Sterlings have legal grounds to retain their team???

Yeah, I doubt the current squad had much of any impact on the price. The Clippers are an enduring business while it's current players might have 4 more years left on their contracts. They'll have as much impact on the value of the franchise as a high-end air conditioning compressor has on the value of a house. The fancy AC is nice to have, but the value is driven by the location.

Perhaps they can sue under Americans with Disabilities Act because the NBA didn't provide accomodation for his senility.

    David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt 55s

Maxwell Blecher, attorney for Donald Sterling, says in e-mail that Shelley Sterling's claim his client is mentally incompetent is "absurd."

Or it could be that he isn't suddenly mentally incompetent and they don't want to let his wife and/or the league bypass what's in the NBA by-laws and jack him for the team.

Time for the lawyers to battle this out in court. Maybe this should be a new arc on Suits.

    Hope he wins this case.

He deserved to lose the team, but it's time the NBA took it up the rear end.

I hope he also sues the crap out of his estranged wife who has way too much power at this point. Donald bought the team and Shelley is selling.... Wtf.

You can buy a 2000 square foot 3 bedroom and 2 bath house in Milwaukee for about $180,000. That same house in Manhattan Beach, CA with no view is $1.5 million. With an ocean view, the house would be $3-5 million. So that is about an 8-1 ratio in value with the no ocean view option. And that is Manhattan Beach and not Beverly Hills or Hollywood Hills. Using an 8-1 location value ratio, the Clippers should be 8 times the value of the Bucks.

That said, I think Ballmer paid what the Lakers are worth and the Clippers aren't the Lakers. Time will tell if he can re-brand to make the Clippers more attractive. With Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Rihanna, etc... showing up at the Clippers playoff games this year, its sort of proof that LA is a city that thinks about tomorrow and not so much about yesterday.
