In BA's latest mock, Brady Aiken is still at the top, while Carlos Rodon slides to.... the Cubs. Do you know if we've scouted Alex Jackson much? Something about Luhnow suddenly taking a high school arm just doesn't smell right to me. I still think he goes Rodon or a bat.
This is who I want the Cubs to take. I've been high on Jackson for a while, and while I think we need pitching, I know Rodon won't be available at 4. Waiting for HS pitchers to come up is such a long process sometimes.
It would suck if the Cubs picked a better player than us in back-to-back years. Really hoping they overlook this season and take Rodon..

Kolek is the next great pitcher out of the Houston area. You cant go wrong? How is Cole Stewart doing this yr? I am very high bon him.
If Boras and Rodon insist on 1.1 slot monies, I fully expect a free fall and a reasonable chance Rodon plays one more year of college ball.
After this year and the scare of his IP... I would say it is very unlikely he goes back to college. Please take him, Astros.
This will be interesting but I can't see the Astros not picking Rodon. At some point they have to start prioritizing winning in Houston and this guy in my eyes will get to the BIGS faster than any HS pitcher will. Unless they have major questions on his arm holding up, he's the guy.
I don't think that argument really holds anymore. Passing on Rodon doesnt mean the Astros don't prioritize winning. They could take AJax who could make it through the system relatively fast too.
If McHugh and Keuchel's success is somehow related to our overall coaching and scouting of pitchers, meaning it's sustainable, then I definitely agree with this. We have tons of pitching talent in the minors already. Even if you go through the normal pitching attrition rate, expecting 2 good-to-great starters from this crop is reasonable. And those that don't pan out can shore up our bullpen. But our lineup is still atrocious. Even if we optimistically peg Correa and Singleton both as successes, we still have a projected mediocre lineup.
Which is why I hope they go with Jackson first. Astros have Correa, Singleton, and Santana that could really be something imo. Ruiz, DDJ, and Kemp are possibilities. The pitching in system is pretty damn good. In hindsight, I believe the Astros would have rather gone Bryant last year and take Aiken this year though.
