I just brought my nephews there a couple of months ago. No idea how they stay open but they have go carts there now. I guess they must be doing something right to be opened that long.

    That's been overturned.

I don't think I remember them here, but they do exist in other states like you said. Terribly unhealthy, but delicious.

Food Lion opened up right in my neighborhood at the time (it's now an HCC Alief satellite campus I think) and had no chance at all. Back then, pre internet (or during Prodigy days or something), 20/20, 60 Minutes, and other news magazines were the national news sources. I think it was 20/20 that did an undercover piece on Food Lion changing their meat expiration dates and unsafe food handling practices. I think Food Lion sued after, and I think they went bankrupt too. At least the one in my hood was a ghost town all the time, except for my dad going, lol. He always said that there's no way they'd screw up again with all the national scrutiny.

Planet Music on Gessner and Westheimer... my wife used to work there. Then it became Borders.

EL COLONIAL Movie Theatre on Fulton before it split into Irvington.

Greens Crossing on ELLA across the beltway is still there. :p

Looking at Google Maps, it just hit me. One of the ones I was thinking of was near Westheimer and Montrose if I recall correctly and it was Soundwaves. I used to stop there and at Record Rack at least 3 times a week to get my import fix. I used to stop at the Soundwaves on Main somewhere near Kirby to get my rap/hip-hop fix. I also used to stop by the Sound Warehouse on Shepherd mentioned above.

I could've sworn there was another one out there that hasn't been mentioned, though. Maybe I'm just imagining it.

Luthers? Looks like they became Pappas. I don't like Pappas BBQ.

Was this the one somewhere around Sugar Land... around Hwy 6? Ted and/or Todd Harvey ran it? I used to go a store in the Mo. City/Sugar Land area by that name. I think the Harveys also had a sports memorabilia show or guest-hosted a show from time to time on KSEV or KPRC back in the 90's.

You knew Joe? He was a long-time banking customer of my dad's, came to my 3rd grade class and gave a presentation about Germany (with food!). That was my family's "go to" special occasion place, best prime rib in the city.

Menke was an OG, Original German.
