I believe someone bought 5% of the Lakers for 150M a few years ago. So I would disagree. ;)

But doesn't he control the trust? If it were that simple to just get the trust to agree and bypass him then there would be no need to vote him out, etc. Something is missing.

As a Clipper season ticket holder, I feel like the value of my seats just went up substantially. With a real owner, the Clippers are going to be a leading franchise in the NBA. I wouldn't be surprised to see them rebrand the team.

Ballmer is a bored billionaire now that he was ousted out of Microsoft. He just wants something to do. I'm sure he was bored out of his mind these last few months doing nothing. 2 billion is still nothing to him.

$2 billion is 1/6 of his wealth. It's like buying a house for him

1/6? According to Wikipedia he has 18-20 billion.

So it's like 1/9 of his wealth, but there are diminishing returns. So he had 18 billion but now he has 16 billion. That is not a big difference at all.

1/9th of your wealth for a title contender in a massive market is a fantastic investment

I think a professional sports franchise in LA is about as safe as you can get. Unless Cali falls into the ocean.

That's what Time Warner was thinking when they paid $2 billion for the media rights for the Dodgers. Didn't work out so well for them. It turns out there are limits to everything.

Also true of all bubbles, until they do.
