In hindsight, should Morey have pulled the trigger on that Rondo trade?

Do you wish Morey had included Parsons in a deal for Rondo?

  1. YES - one of the best PG's in the league, and could have led to a Finals appearance.

I don't like how rumored trade possibilities seem to take on more certainty in retrospect. It is not clear at all to me that we had a firm Rondo offer on the table to reject.

But, no, in retrospect I don't like that deal at all. One, I think Rondo will be cheaper this offseason than he was at midseason. Two, I think the trade you're proposing here is expensive and would have made us terribly lopsided. Lin's not in the deal, so we'd have excessive PG depth with Rondo, Lin, Beverley, and Canaan. We'd have a big gaping hole at small forward. And, we wouldn't have Asik's services as a backup center, which he did fine at in the playoffs.

Now an offseason trade for Rondo would give us more space to properly balance the roster. If Parsons went in the deal, we'd have an opportunity to find a successor. If we pick up Rondo, we have a chance to flip the other PGs. I don't have an objection to cashing in on Parsons value so long as we're getting fair return. Asik AND Parsons AND picks sounds rich to me if we're only getting Rondo back.

No, It would not work out. The team depends on spacing the floor in order to score. Just think about both rondo and asik and Howard spacing the floor....disgusting. Lowry, by far would be a better fit on this team than rondo.

Acquiring Love & Melo without a true point guard is pointless. All you'd have is 3 superstars taking turns scoring. Absolutely no chemistry or cohesiveness. What we REALLY need is a true point guard that'll get in the lane & create shots for others. Rondo is that guy

I just don't see how adding Rondo works for this team. I like the idea of Harden playing off the ball at times but he needs the ball at least a sometimes to truly play his game and I can't see Rondo playing off the ball. If we acquire Rondo, I will be happy because I really do trust Morey's direction and acquiring Rondo wouldn't be a fall back plan it would be a top option.

Even Parsons himself acknowledged that he heard that the Rockets turned down the Rondo trade because they wanted to keep him. Sure, it could have just been rumors, but maybe not.

Listen. If we can somehow trade Parsons/Lin for Rondo/filler/Pick now... you have to pull the trigger.

2 year window at near 11 million for a top 5 PG is truly a buy. A Pick and Roll offense with him and Howard could be amazing. He's really the guy we need. Even then... we could go after Melo. This needs to happen on or before draft day. Maybe after.... but before FA period.

I disagree, Rondo would be great if and only if Howard would buy into being a more mobile pick and roll center instead of demanding post touches. Rondo's lack of range makes him less attractive but when you have Harden and so many others that can hit a 3 it's less an issue. Plus Harden and Rondo could run a mean backcourt PnR game, sort of like Lin and Harden did in limited situations (but much better and without the silly turnovers). His penetration would create so much space for everyone.

And that's not even talking about him as a defensive presence.

I wasn't a fan of it initially but that's because I was delusional about P Bev. In retrospect he could have gotten us past the Blazers and possibly further.

Big red flag is his surly personality. Not sure if he and Harden would be able to co-exist based on personalities - but I think on court it could work.

The more I think about it the more it makes sense that Morey will not trade Parsons for anyone and will just sign the last piece this offseason.

Melo is ideal because he can fit right into the Lin/Asik cap space and then you go over the cap to resign Parsons.

Why gut the team when you don't have to? You can have your cake and eat it too with a big 3 and a very valuable 4th option/glue guy.

As I keep saying would you rather have Melo/Parsons or Love?

Or in this case Melo/Parsons or Rondo?

Give me Melo and Parsons please.

And we have a 6'5" guy who does some of that for us. He might not be as good as Lebron at distributing, but being not as good as Lebron doesn't disqualify you from being more than capable of doing something. There is a reason while still with OKC they used Harden as the ball handler and distributor at times even when Westbrook was on the floor. Harden has those skills.

I'm guessing you are trying to say that Harden is selfish. Just another one of the false narratives people try like hell to just repeat and repeat as if it's a fact when it's clearly not.

Rondo was TERRIBLE last year... he wasn't winning anything for the Rockets last year.

It was just talk. Ainge will look for the best deal possible for Rondo.

We value Parsons more than other GMs, guys.

    Rondo talk wasn't that serious...

I voted no, but I'm not sure about past this season. I think having Rondo would have gotten us pass the first round, and I think he would be a great addition.

BUT, it remains to be seen who we can get this summer and what moves Morey makes. If he can get another creator and a couple of solid role players, my vote would change to "yes."

Man, I don't know. Maybe Morey should have hired a better coach?
