Not crazy talk... just don't see them over-spending for anybody (especially for somebody with diminishing returns, which unfortunately most high priced free agents suffer from). Much more likely to see the Cardinals-like model of being buyers at the deadline, and trading for guys prior to their free agency years (Mark McGwire, Scott Rolen, Matt Holiday). Then you attempt to re-sign them by using the lure of the city, with the promise of possible future immediate success.
Absolutely not a starter. At best a late inning defensive replacement or injury replacement... of course, Bob Grossman needs to make the most of his second chance prior to the wave of call-ups in July.
