Daryl Morey and Les Alexander devise a scheme to send Patrick Beverley back to 2009 with instructions to convince the 2009 version of Morey and Alexander to stop Rick Adelman from playing Yao Ming in the game vs. the Lakers in which he broke his foot.

Morey and Alexander initially did not believe in Beverley's story about being from the future. After all, Beverley was not a Rocket in 2009 and they had barely scouted him. Eventually, Pat convinced Morey and Les to put aside their differences, and with the help of Ron Artest and Aaron Brooks, prevented Yao Ming's injury.

But is this enough to prevent the occurrence of a dystopian future in which the Rockets live under the oppression of James Harden's defense and Jeremy Lin's turnovers or is Yao's injury, and the dark future events, inevitable?

No, that doesn't work, Dream had elite level footwork, arguably the best ever.

Combine Yao, Dwight, Moses Malone, Pele', Jack Nicklaus and JJ Watt. And Jesus for the David Robinson MVP trophy playoff game.

Imagine if Yao actually got to shoot free throws at Dwight or Shaq's pace. His last productive year he was only shooting just over 5 a game. That should've been 10-12

In this dystopian future, poster Chucky Brown posts relentlessly positive news in the GARM about Harden's offense.

His peak year he shots 8.6 per game and averaged 25 ppg.

    That was under Gundy.

Dwight is mobile and contributes in ways Yao never has. They all have their plus and minuses but I'd rather take Dwight. Both got and get horrible officiating however. Asik too. Why are Houston big men treated like dog shiiit?

Yao Ming... Really?! I loved him but honestly he deserve a very small page in Rockets' history

Yao Ming will have his number retired. Yao Ming caused this board to go from several thousand member to 20 times that.

Yao Ming sits up there with Moses and Hakeem in terms of Houston legends.

That is true if based objectively on pure production.

But he is the first Asian star player and will always be a huge part of the Rockets history. How could he not be? Him being a super-cool guy helps also.

Pre-injury it's Howard by a mile because he was so durable. Post-injury it's still Howard because even with less lift and a bad back Howard was there every night. Unless we're comparing fantasy healthy Yao.

With a healthy yao, we get past the blazers in the playoffs ONLY if mchale wasn't the coach. Dwight has more upside and is a beast defensively when he's on . Yao thrived under adelmans system . get adelman back (wishful thinking), and we won't miss yao as much.

How did a thread starting with "Yao would be awesome if he was still playing" turn into "Howard > Yao vs Yao > Howard?"

He's not worthy based on objective production? Keep in mind the following stats are accumulated while he played for JVG the slowest and lowest scoring brand of basketball in history.

    Yao Ming Rockets career rankings

All-Star appearances - 2nd (Would STILL be 2nd even if you take out all the ones where one can argue he doesn't belong in)
All-NBA appearances - 3rd (technically 2nd but I put Moses above him because his 1st team honors and generally MVP level play)
    Games - 10th
    Points - 6th
    Rebounds - 6th
    Blocks - 2nd
    FG%/TS% - 5th for both
    Win Share/WS-48 - 5th/4th respectively

If you "objectively" believe that Yao Ming is insignificant in Rockets history, then I "objectively" find you to be an idiot.

Uninjured Yao is much better than Dwight mainly due to his soft shot and size. If his durability is the same as Dwight, he might have given the Rockets at least one ring.

'Yao is better than Lin at basketball. That is just a fact.'

It is such an ignorant statement. A Center like Yao is hard to find nowadays with his giant size. He is better at FT, post game, blocking shots

But his size does not allow him to be really good at dribbling, outrunning opponents

He was producing Turnovers(part of Basketball well he was mediocre), and not shooting long range shots

    Peak years:

    Yao- 25ppg, .601 TS, 9.4 REB, 2.0 AST, 2.0 BLK, .220 WS/48
    Dwight- 20.6ppg, .600 TS, 13.8 REB, 1.4 AST, 2.9 BLK, .234 WS/48

    It was really close.

-When healthy, Dwight was just a defensive beast.
-But Yao was a very good defender too and better on offense.
-Dwight beats him on rebounds easily.
    -Yao was the smarter player.
    -Yao hit his free throws.

Would have been plenty happy if Yao just had a longer 08-09 playoff series
