We'll if they are going to be in nickel 60+% of the time you are looking at

Clowney, Watt, Nix/Crick/Matthews/ Pagen, Mercilus up front
    Cushing, Reed at linebacker
    And 5 db's

Clowney and Watt could and will be lining up at multiple spots up front

There will be an open competition for that DE role, but I think the favorite has to be Crick.

Don't discount Ricardo Matthews playing that role. He can play tackle or end in a 3-4 and right now, he has more bulk that Crick which might make him better suited for the role, at least from a physical standpoint.

    The Clown will fail.

Just like Johnny Punkzeil, his bad attitude, his off-field antics, and his lack of work ethic, self-discipline, desire, professionalism, and the willingness to sacrifice to be great will doom him on the shores of Lake Erie."

I hope Watt and Clowney wreak havoc on defense and the football Gods above us are on the Texans side for all eternity.

I think Matthews or Pagan (If healthy) will man that other DE spot. I dont think Crick is going to be starting, other than possibly the first couple weeks. He's just not good enough and never lived up to the potential.

Crick is more likely a favorite NOT to make the 53 man roster than he is to be a starter.

I think maybe Mathews will end up being the starter opposite J.J. with Pagan possibly the 1st man off the bench. Got some other new blood as well so have to see how they do. I'm just giving Mathews the edge because of experience as of now (and the reports out of camp so far).

Clowney could possibly get a little play at that 3-4 DE spot as well. And they can always add another free agent when teams make more cuts.

Crick is going to have a fight on his hands just to make the team.

No way Crick gets cut. We like to use him as the JJ Watt decoy. Teams will accidentally double him. It's like the annexation of Puerto Rico on defense

don't see it happening. romeo (alot like SEA) likes to have depth and his front DL/LBs constantly rotated. need good depth for that.

[keanu reaves], what happens when you play them together...

Seattle runs a 4-3 defense. 3-4 defenses usually carry less defensive linemen than a 4-3 defense but more LB's. Right not there are 11-12 defensive linemen on the roster.

But when it comes time to make the 53 man roster (and most 3-4 defenses carry 7-9 defensive linemen) _ some of those guys will get cut and there is no guarantee Crick will or won't be one of those cuts. And I'm not saying he will get cut, but I am saying he has a better chance of getting cut than he has to start.

No way is he the favorite to be a starter.

Yeah, there's almost no chance that Crick gets cut, that's probably why Remii suggested it would happen. Is there a ridiculous take he wouldn't adopt?

I dont see Crick getting cut...but I also dont see him as a starter, which is disappointing. I had higher hopes for him when we drafted him. He'll be behind Pagan on the depth chart, imo.

    whoa -- I can't see a 6th rounder beating out Crick

But I did love the Pagan selection in the draft -- his run stuffing complements Clowney nicely

I think you said it yourself...run stuffing.

When he have a line that has a couple great pass rushers, we need to be able to contain the run just as well.

And Crick is a 4th rounder, so it's not like Pagan would be beating out a stud. Crick isnt a good enough pass rusher or run stopper to get heavy play time. If Pagan can show that he can stop the run at the next level, there is no reason to keep him playing behind Crick.

Does anyone else think that the Texan's defense might be "special" this coming season? New players, new coaches, new ideas, schemes, and motivation. I still think the Texan's problems last year weren't mainly players or the lack of talent. We will see.

It could happen as early as this year, but we'll be depending on a lot of rookies so I could see it taking a year or so till they gel correctly. One thing is for certain, we have the pieces to have a monster defense going forward.

Yeah, with a couple of breaks, the defense could really be great this year. The defense of Wade's first year was awesome! I can't say that this roster has any less potential.

Well we did downgrade at the D coordinator spot, but we significantly upgraded the talent.
