Not under D'Antoni... He would be a very handy 4/5 if we could nab him. Would make trading Asik much easier
Just because of the injury issues. Especially with Gallinari who'll make 20 million in the next two years, and who really know how he'll come back after missing all season. And losing Parsons could rock the chemistry boat. I'd do it though because Lawson is that good, and I think he'd be a great fit. Incredible in penetration and transition, good shooter, crazy quick, and a good distributor.
Pau would instantly be our best post player, and that was kind of the problem Dantoni faced in LA...it would be idiotic to bring Pau here... The Rockets need someone that would play the role of a spot up rebounding four...hence why Milsap or Bosh would be ideal for this offense...
Pau would be nice, but he's going to want a 7-9 million dollar contract. While he's deserving of that type of money, he's not the piece to take us over the top, and we wouldn't throw cap space out like that without getting another star player first. He would be a excellent 2nd piece though if we could bring someone else in with him. If we could get Lowry, Deng, Stephenson, Bledsoe, I.Thomas first, Gasol would be a great second addition.
I think we can find 'another Pasons' more easily than we could find a Ty Lawson. Hence I don't see much risk (especially receiving back a better player [if fit] than Parsons in Gallinari!) I have no idea why Denver would gift him to us though
Somebody please just give me an Eric Bledsoe S&T. I don't care what it takes. (No way Phoenix would give that up, but I guess I said that about Harden too a while back)
What about an: Asik for Reggie Jackson & Steven Adams trade (plus any fillers to make salaries work)? We have a back up center in Adams and a starting point guard in Jackson.
Not that I dislike the players, but f--k helping OKC. An Ibaka-Asik front court with KD and Westbrook just destroys our chances.
I don't think thunders would do it. Both Jackson and Adams are young players with good cheap contracts.
What do you think it would take to get Kemba? He'd be a big PG upgrade, and he plays with so much fire. I think he'd be an incredible addition. Just a thought. And MKG gives us a solid wing defender finally. Biyombo can back up Howard, just play limited minuted of D and rebounding. Then we go out and sign a shooter or another solid wing player with the MLE or after dumping Lin. (Personally I like Meeks) Bobcats in: Omer Asik, Chandler Parsons Rockets in: Kemba Walker, Michael Kidd-Gilchrest, Bismack Biyombo
Oh, and possibly #24. Not sure how much we really overvalue Parsons. I'd also be happy to not have to worry about overpaying him in a year or so.
We could give them Lin. They'd have the cap room, and he'd do well as a primary ball-handler there. And if it didn't work out, his contract is expiring. Might be nice to have a marketable face on that new name, logo, and jersey.
I'm will willing to give up the following to get Rondo and Jeff Green: Parsons, Asik, Lin (Please take, will give another player if necessary)
TJones? or Donuts? I think this would require more than a quick look. Rockets lost the "entire" bench in just one trade. Rockets would want at least some good bench players back.
So we can go after Kevin Love, but I don't think we'll get him. I actually honestly believe the best shot we have at getting a nice big man is Pau Gasol. When we didn't have Dwight, I didn't think Gasol would fit us but I do believe he is the perfect compliment to Dwight besides the usual like Bosh, Love, Ryan Anderson who I think are all unattainable. Gasol is a free agent. I propose we S&T for Gasol. Give him 3 years at 7.5 million dollars with a team option for the third year for the following: Lakers send: Paul Gasol (7.5 million) 7th pick in the draft Xavier Henry ($880,000) Houston sends: Chandler Parsons ($926,500) Jeremy Lin ($8.4 million) D-Mo ($1.4 million) 2nd Round Draft Pick (42nd Pick in this years Draft) Why I think the Lakers would do this: 1. They get a second scorer beside Kobe (Parsons) 2. I don't believe they will retain Pau for mutual reasons 3. Marshall is a great starting PG for them but can't really score 4. I don't think they will win the Kevin Love Sweepstakes so they will trade the 7th pick. Rockets: 1. Get your starting PF alongside Dwight 2. 7th Pick Overall - Draft either Julius Randle (PF for the future) or Marcus Smart (PG for the future) 3. Get something out of Parsons before we have to pay him. 4. Retain the 25th pick overall I don't know. I think the deal can be modified so both sides agree, but all thoughts welcome
I just want to say I'd really like for us to trade Jeremy Lin for Steve Nash straight up. I think it's a risky deal for us, and I do think that Jeremy Lin is, today, a more valuable player on court if each player has to play 30 minutes per game and 82 games per season. Here's why I'd do it though: - Lin is playing backup on this team but he still doesn't fit with our stars. I genuinely believe he can flourish again, but maybe not here. I think Steve Nash is capable of playing 20-25 minutes per game over a season. Rest him early. Increase his minutes late. I think his 3pt shooting and playmaking ability off the bench can have a greater impact for us than Lin's pick n roll game. Yes I believe Lin is the better overall player today, particularly defensively. I still think Nash is so much a better fit that it narrows the gap. We really can use a guy off the bench who's a lock to hit 40% or better from 3pt range. Sort of like Ray Allen's role on the Heat. - Nash has tons of playoff experience and he's not won a ring. I believe he would give it one last shot with our squad, and he would also kick this team's ass a little bit telling them they could end up without rings. I think he'd be a solid locker room influence. Again, Lin seems to be a great locker room guy, but I think Nash can bring more veteran leadership which this team seems to be lacking. I also think he will rehab this summer and (if possible) tolerate more pain to stay on the floor. - Nash can mentor Beverley and Canaan. Both those guys can really use some lessons on how to run a fast paced offense. That's Nash's game. He knows it. I don't know if he can teach it, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have him there. Beverley is young and Canaan younger. The former being a great defender and the latter an excellent sniper. Both of them have room for improvement on how to run an offense. This can be an excellent way to round out Beverley's game and ease Canaan into becoming a rotation player. Nash is sure to need plenty of rest, so Canaan will still get some minutes. - He might be a guy who convinces Harden to play off the ball a bit more. It's easier to trust a seasoned vet than a Patrick Beverley or a Jeremy Lin. - Salary wise, I'd rather pay Nash his salary to come off the bench than Lin. Reason being, our offense is a better fit for Nash. We are paying an elite PnR player to work in his defense and 3pt shooting. It's not working out well for us or Lin. Lin can actually get more minutes and touches on this Lakers team while not affecting their salary cap situation. He is due more money, however the Lakers create an additional $1m in cap space and maybe we prepay his contract as much as possible to lessen the financial burden on them. - If it doesn't work out and Nash can't play I think we could either get a disabled player exception to acquire someone OR it would be easier to deal his contract at the deadline than Lin's. At the deadline I think we'd even be able to package his contract with our other contracts in a larger deal (assuming we acquire him fairly soon in the window). I think there is a fair chance that Nash is unable to play much this coming season. I would still pull the trigger simply because the worst case scenario is that he travels with this team and mentors our young guys. The best case scenario is he does all that AND gives us 20-30 minutes off the bench of dead eye shooting and uptempo basketball. This versus watching Lin trying hard to fill a role that clearly doesn't fit his skillset for a whole season just to watch him walk. We could even save some money here if we're lucky. Lin playing for the Lakers is big marketing $$$'s in what's looking like it will be another down season for the Lakers. Can't really hurt them. Plus he's at home. It's a small trade, but I think one that could make 4 parties extremely happy. What do you guys think? Is Nash too big a risk for this to work out?
