I don't put too much into this. I'm not sure Irving's agent will settle for anything less than the 5yr super-max. And if Cleveland's unwilling to give him that, it's more lucrative for Irving to obtain a RFA from another team because it would be a 3 year deal(4th year player option) than a straight up 4yr max this year. The RFA contract would allow Irving to become FA right at year 7, the year max contract is bumped up to 30%.

Personally, if I were running Cleveland, I would also be hesitant to pay Irving Paul George money given his play.

Would give Kyrie the max, would warmly welcome him.

Sign and trade anybody but HnH for him, morey.

No point guard is worth the max, unless it's Magic Johnson. Smart.

You guys realize John Wall and "F#cking 0 pts and 0 rebs" Roy Hibbert have max deals.

I think Lowry is a good player, a bulldog, and better defender than Irving...he's not better.

Irving is the kind of player that could take a team deep into the playoffs...Irving in place of Teague (Atlanta) and Lin (Houston) would've won those series.

The Cavs are mishandling a player. What a shock. This is so unlike them.

Lin + Jones + couple 1st rounders and Parsons if they draft Embiid or Asik if they draft Wiggins/Parker. Hell take both.

    Git'r done Morey

“He was just handed too much, too soon,’’ said one source. “You’ve got to make these young guys earn it, and that’s where this team did a bad job with him.’’

no way anyone highup in the organization said this. Someone from another team maybe

This is different in a way though, OKC were running into cap issues with Ibaka's extension coming up. Cavs do have the space to give him whatever he wants, and yes he will get the max from cavs cus no body wants to play for them. Kinda like John wall situation. Doesn't deserve it but will get it.

With the Cavs holding the number one pick, unless they can swing Kyrie for another superstar/all star, it's best if they resigned him anyways. Not sure if they're going to be interested in signing Deng to a 3-4 year contract (10+ million range I'm sure). Too bad Waiters isn't playing consistently enough and Bennett has showed little promise as a rookie.

No player on a team that can't make the playoffs in the Eastern conference "deserves" a max deal.

He hasn't even taken his team into the playoffs. Teague has taken his team into the playoffs five years in a row.

Well of course. Even better spent on Durant.

He needs to be mentored by a true point guard.

Go to LAL and learn from Magic.
Go to BOS and learn fron Rondo.

Right now, Irving is a SG stuck in the body of a point. If he can hone some passing skills in combination with his handle and slashing he could be the next CP3.

If I got to pay that much for a new PG I would rather have Lowry. To much "if" with Kyrie. If he realizes his potential. If he develops betters defense. If he becomes better in the locker room. Getting Kyrie slows us down. Lowry is a win now move. Kyrie is a maybe now but we are looking 2-3 years for him to develop to full stardom. He's not there yet.

We are talking about the first max contract which averages around 16 million a year. Kyrie is worth that much and I'm not even a big fan. Lin is making 15 million this year.

Its amazing to think about how many perceived star/franchise point guards really can't play a lick of defense.

Irving, Curry, and Lillard are awful defenders, then Lawson, Kemba, Wall, and Thomas are all below average defenders at best.

Can you consider a guy a star/franchise player if he can barely defend his position?

Great offensive player, but horrible defender. Where have I heard that before? Cavs were 2 points per 100 pos worse defensively when he was on the floor.

Why bring up Lin? We all know Morey overpaid Lin after Linsanity and he's only making $15mil next season because of the structure of his poison pill contract.

PG is probably the hardest position to defend if you can't hand check.

    Not worth it at all.

He was a really good rookie but hasn't gotten any better.
