Morey would have never been interested in guys like Sam and Sprewell. He would have been too busy waiting for max guys to "shake loose" from their teams. Non-max guys like those two aren't welcome unless you already have a super team that's guaranteed to win big.
Sure he had a decent team, but considering how long his tenure was as GM you are bound to have a decent team sooner or later. I'm not sure why you would even compare Mchale as GM to our boy Morey.....it is almost comical. The bottom line is that i'd take a healthy Yao and TMac Rockets team all day over those TWolves....and talent wise you could make a case we currently have a better team than that twolves team.
Royce had top-10 potential if he could get past his mental issues. It ended up badly, but if had gone well, we would be calling Morey a genius for drafting him.
Even with prime KG, the TWolves got out of the first round once and had to have an extremely bad season in order to get Kevin Love, who they could have picked at 3rd but didn't, in the first place. Morey has never had a losing season and went from losing two all-NBA players for basically nothing to having two all-NBA players without tanking in a span of four-five years, which is unheard of. Give Morey some more credit than that. The '09 Rockets fully healthy were better than that team, so the answer is yes. We're also one piece from surpassing both the '09 Rockets and the '04 Wolves without any losing season since Morey got here, something McHale would never have been able to do .
Wait. When did we get a #5 lottery pick that I missed? Lottery picks given to Minnesota during McHale's career. 5 (KG) 5 (Allen traded for Marbury) 6 (Szczerbiak) 6 (Brandon Roy traded for Randy Foye) 3 (Mayo traded for Kevin Love) Quite frankly, not as bad as I had previously thought. hitting on 2 of 5 with picks 3-6 is quite good. But I think even you can agree Morey would do better.
The 03/04 team Western Finals came happened in his 9th season as GM. In the prior 8 seasons the Wolves made the playoffs 7 times but lost in the 1st round. Morey is now heading into his 9th season with the Rockets. During this first 8 seasons the Rockets made the playoffs 5 times and got past the first round once. Looks similar to me.
Morey's lotto picks: Gay traded for Battier Patterson Morris Henson traded for Lamb Terrence Williams Hasheem Thabeet Jonny Flynn Jordan Hill Thomas Robinson James Harden
Shouldn't Cassell be compared to Bev? And the obligatory "how dare you mention Lin and Cassell in the same sentence you LOF"
You didn't answer the question. The proof is in the pudding. McHale did put together a very solid couple of teams and he did land Kevin Love. He was taken fifth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies, immediately after his teammate at UCLA, Russell Westbrook, who was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics. Following the draft, Love was traded, along with Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, and Jason Collins to the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the third overall pick O. J. Mayo, Antoine Walker, Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner going to the Grizzlies. Yeah… what a dumb dumb that can't see the real nature of basketball…
Obvious troll thread is obvious. Everyone knows there were no "teams" before an improbable player's emergence in New York in 2012. There was only hero-ball. Mods please lock.
so what you are saying McHale is a good Gm? But remember he is coaching in Houston and not doing a FO job Morey needs to learn from McHale how to draft or get good PF talents (KG and KLove) instead of undersized and mediocre ones. But he is doing fine otherwise.
