Yup, that's pretty much it. You crushed his argument so he was trying to change the argument. The AFC South is almost laughably weak right now.
I'm just not expecting Romeo to work miracles with a defense depending on players coming off injury, rookies, guys off the free agent scrap heap, and one J.J. Hopefully you're right because they face some good offenses in the 1st half of the season. Fitzpatrick has nothing to do with nothing. He's just the quarterback. My bad. As I already said _ those aren't the only two teams the Texans play this year. But you can concentrate on those two teams if you like.
Ive never said QB isnt important...And Ive never said Fitzpatrick is the savior. We werent even talking about that. My response was directly towards your assertion that the Titans and Jags have strong running games, which they do not. Yes, we will be playing plenty of teams with good running games, Ive never disputed that. My only point was that we dont need to worry about the Jags and Titans running all over us....unless we really suck at run defense.
Wade's 3-4 is very similar to the old 5-2 defense that was prevelant in college football in the 60-70's. The only difference is the OLB stood up where in the old 5-2 the DE had their hands on the ground.
Yeah, he has potential to be another exception, we'll see. This upcoming season will let us know if Lacy is a legit top 10 RB or if he's just the next Stevan Ridley one hit wonder.
Eh, the fact that former players from a certain school have succeeded or failed has zero bearing on whether or not future players will succeed or fail. UT hasn't had an OL drafted since 2008, therefore....
Thing about clowney, most pundits think his athletic talent will equal a high end pass rusher. He's not a good pass rusher even at the college leve. He had 0 moves or counter moves. He either got sacks by speed rush or pretty much nothing. In nfl, teams are gonna see if he can do something else. Its not like he's mario strong either. Every o-linemen will tell you mario on just a straight bull rush will make you reset your feet because he so freaking strong. Clowney is a great linear athlete who doesn't bend with people pushing on him. Its easy to look athletic in a drill, but as we know, the nfl is not a drill.
I would rather a guy come into the NFL without moves, beating guys off speed rush than off power/bull rushes. NFL linemen are significantly stronger than college linemen, and we saw that with Mario. You don't need to be stronger than him, you just have to be able to beat him to the spot and then he becomes very stonewall-able. A guy with speed as well as a little power like Clowney (not a total speed rusher who's tiny like Anthony Barr) will always have more potential than a power guy because of the fact that moves are teachable. That kind of athleticism is not. After the Mario Williams Experience, give me speed over size any day.
No dawg. I said they are gearing up to be run heavy teams. Won't know if they have strong running games until the season starts. And I said they have talent at the RB position. Maybe not all world talent but it's talent. Toby Gerhart has a 4.7 yards per carry average for his career and averaged 7.9 yards per carry last season. And Storm Johnson isn't garbage. You should see what he did to Louisville's defense that had 2 players go in the 1st round and he also had a decent game against Clowney and the SC defense. They drafted Luke Joeckel with their #2 pick last year to play right tackle and he only played the 1st 5 games last season so with him coming back and the addition of the guard they drafted this year I expect their run game to be better than what it was last season. The Jags played with a lot of rookies last season and that team looked totally different (as in better) in the 2nd half of the season. And Tennessee's offensive line looks down right nasty _ on paper. The teams in this division will test the Texans run defense this season. I said nothing about win or lose. But Tennessee now has a proven head coach and Jacksonville arguably has the best GM in this division so I don't view this division as a push over division for the Texans with Indy thrown in the mix as well. At least not at this point in time.
Really excited to see a clowney take it to the field. Reminds me of a larger clay Matthews iii , in the way he plays..quick start off the snap, can leap tackle so well...but also the size of a DE..can't wait
Weird he was the consensus number one overall prospect and deemed the best defensive prospect in some time. He has plenty of moves, speed rush, bull rush, swim both sides, dart inside, fake inside and dip outside. Crazy ain't it?
Like it was mentioned, the technique will come...the crazy quickness is an edge he has that very few defensive players have. Just with his speed alone, he'll be difficult to deal with. Once he gets any technique down, he'll be a complete stud.
He does have a really nice rip move to the inside. It's probably more of a "change up" move - he goes to it more than I think you'd like - but it is a developed technical move.
His swim move is also pretty good. Anyone who thinks that he doesn't have any moves or counters either didn't watch enough film, or didn't know what they were looking at when they did watch film. Does he have plenty to work on when it comes to technique? Of course, he's a rookie, but he's by no means completely raw.
So what's the projected front 7 right now? Watt--Nix--?? Clowney--cushing--reed--Mercilus Is that right? Who's going to be the other DE? Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question or confusing the terminology..
Right now you gotta pencil in Crick as the favorite to take Antonio Smith's old role. Remember though that the 3-tech opposite JJ Watt is more than likely going to be asked to do the traditional Crennel 3-tech stuff meaning, fill two gaps, stuff the run, don't penetrate as much. Later in the year, we may see Pagan take this role. He's bigger I think, and people are saying that before he got hurt he really flashed at Alabama.
Also, don't pencil in Mercilus as an OLB starter just yet. If Clowney is our elephant LB, than he's basically pushing Mercilus out of his old job, which he wasn't very good at to begin with. If Mercilus can't cover well, then we may see Reed out there again with another guy at ILB (Bullough?). Mercilus would then be relegated to 3rd down pass rush duties, and as a rotational backup to Clowney.
