I feel like the Donovan you are talking about is the 2010 Donovan, he has not been that type of player in at least 2 years... I would have loved for him to be on the team but I'm not really hot about him being left off. Just as long as we make it out of our group!
He was the best player on the team in last year's Gold Cup. Did you not watch? If those 23 guys with tickets are all better than 2014 Landon Donovan, then there's no way we are not bringing home the trophy this year. That's not the case though. It was a conflict of personalities and the guy with all the power has the final say. That's the all of it. All this talk about 32yo Wondo being better than 32yo LD is dumb. At least Brad Davis made it. For that I is excite.
Lol I don't even know brah. SMH I don't even know why I'm getting my knickers in a twist over this. I need to be Namaste-ing. So sorry brehs.
Jeez. I guess add him to Yung-T's list of injured players. At least he might be fit for the Rof16. Any Suarez updates(for those of us too lazy to use the "google machine")
Starts rehab tomorrow.. Looks like I was right won't be ready for Costa R. but will start against England.
The US Gold Cup team was pretty much the USMNT B team (link). The only ones from that roster to make the World Cup squad are Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Helsinborg), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), and Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes). If you count the four late additions (Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Alan Gordon and Eddie Johnson), only 8 of the 27 (roughly 1/3) of the roster that competed in the Gold Cup made the World Cup roster. Conceivably, the only World Cup starter out of those 8 might be Besler if Gonzalez, Beasley, and Beckerman are passed over for Cameron, Chandler, Jones.
So, I don't watch much soccer/futbol outside of the world cup but I though I'd share these previews grantland did. They are in the style of the NBA team previews from Bill and Jalen. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/9vd-SQUaY_g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Entire playlist I found it to be entertaining
God Level. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jR1XQsCiAKE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes but...Donovan was 10x better than the guy who took his roster spot for Brazil. Even if Wondo was brought along to be a veteran leader and as a reserve, wouldnt that spot be better used by bringing LD instead? Klinsmann is pissed he had to include LD this far. He went home countless number of nights and spouted off to his family how much he dislikes LD. It's the sole reason his son popped off that dumb tweet which celebrated the fact that LD was left off the 23. This was a personal choice rather than a sound one.
Not sure I get your point really. I guess you're trying to say being the best player on that Gold Cup team doesn't mean much. The players on that Gold Cup team that made it onto the WC roster are all players one can expect to see a fair amount of minutes in the tournament minus Rimando, Wondolowski and probably Mix. That is a possibility that Besler might be the only WC starter out of them but that's a low possibility. I believe FabJo would be the one in contention with Beasley for the left back spot while Chandler was brought in for RB especially if Klinsmann decides to go with Cameron at CB. Odds are the Besler-Gonzo partnership will still go forward into the WC but there's the chance if Gonzo isn't fully recovered that Cameron takes the starting nod there. There's also a decent possibility Bedoya gets a starting nod in midfield as well. Conceivably four players from that 8 might start in the World Cup-Gonzalez, Besler, Beasley and Bedoya.
Man I love Grantland, but those "Men In Blazers" have no idea what they are talking about. I checked out the Belgium video since its the squad I know the most about, and while I agree that I don't see them winning it all, they are stating the wrong reasons. Different dinner tables? Different press conferences? No team chemistry? NIGHTCLUB ETHIC?! Haha my goodness. I doubt there is any squad with more team chemistry than Belgium right now. There is no such things as "different dinner tables or press conferences", they all eat together and speak together in every language. As for the pathetic night club thing, first of all, where does that come from? Secondly, Wilmots has them confined lol they can't do ****. Two years ago there was a 19 year old player (one of the most promising Belgians) who was with the U-21 squad, and he brought a girl in his room. He has been banned from every national team since then, even though he is talented enough to be in the 23 extended list. Seriously Grantland, you can't just choose two guys with english accents and hope they'll know something about football.
I wonder if Klinnsman will make some changes after tonight's friendly? I don't think Donovan is completely out of it yet. DD
