He is going to be a star. I really cant wait. I wanted the Astros to take him over Buxton and Appel. 'Los has that clutch gene in him too. 'Los, 'Los, 'Los. Lol, sorry, one of good friends is named Carlos and that is what we call him.
Tropeano has a nice box-score line but the advanced stats say he's due for a big regression. Fangraphs says his BABIP is .205 and his strand rate is 88.1%; almost Cosartian. His FIP is 4.65. I like the guy a lot but he's gotten extremely lucky this year.
FWIW Ausmus wasn't the hardest working Astro either, not even close... he didn't take extra BP, he didn't hustle the most, he didn't watch the most film or study the most...... (he wasn't lazy.. just "effort" wasn't special)... he just really had a good aptitude for baseball, was very confident and calm and very bright... he got along well with all the players and coaches (for the most part). I remember working the scoreboard for the Astros and really paying attention..... his best friend on the Astros? The one guy on the field that was more respected and even more well thought of than Brad...... Jeff Bagwell.
He wasn't good for most of the year. 26.2 IP 18 K 11 BB 23 H (and a very fake 3.04 ERA) 19.2 IP 23 K 4 BB 8 H (over his last 3) That's the point I was trying to make, since moving to more standard rest he's been awesome. he struggled last year in the tandem system as well.
Domingo Santana just hit his 7th homer of the year as OKC is romping in Memphis. They're up 11-0 in the 7th.
Domingo Santana currently has 2 home runs tonight. He's got 9 on the year, and OKC is leading Memphis 4-1 in the 3rd.
Conrad Gregor just hit his 1st homer of the year for Quad Cities. The 3-run blast gives the Bandits a 4-2 lead in the 6th.
Given the Astros comical lack of production from 1B,LF and DH, which are supposed to be 3 of your 4 top offensive positions, it's actually a little surprising our offense isn't dead last. If Santana doesn't go into a major slump, I could see him in Houston as soon as the arbitration deadline passes. I thought he might repeat AAA, given his lack of dominance at AA. Still a lot of season left though. 2015 opening day C-Castro 1B-Singleton 2B-Altuve SS-Villar 3B-Dominguez LF-Santana CF-Fowler RF-Springer Use a rotation at DH That could be a solid lineup, maybe add an impact bat via trade or FA eventually
That would be one of my thoughts as well, but a large part of Castro's value is the fact that he is a catcher, and his bat really won't play as well at DH. Plus you would probably have to dedicate 3 roster spots to catchers if Castro DH's a lot. I would be fine with it next season while were still in the "see what we have" phase, but Castro playing DH doesn't seem like a good option long term.
His bat at DH would play better than any of the other pseudo "DH's" they've trotted out there. Sure, he's of more value as a catcher... but you're going to keep his bat in the lineup no matter what (he's still an above average hitter at any position). Of course it wouldn't be long-term... if Stassi sticks, and Singleton sticks, and Castro's best season ended up being last year, then you'd have to find a better DH option (or trade Castro as well).
Carlos Correa quietly notched his 10th steal tonight in his 40th game. While not an overwhelming number, it matches his season total from last year in about 1/3 the number of games. Last year, he was 10/20 on steals attempts; this year, he's 10/12. Probably a good sign of him being much better about seeing opportunities and picking his spots.
I know this has been pointed out many times but I am going to reiterate it anyways. The amount of depth in our system is absolutely ridiculous. There are at the very least 25 big leaguers in our system right now.
