Both pictures are random internet pictures and have no real bearing on the conversation, but I decided to respond to your worthless contribution with one of my own.
We are really off on a tangent arguing about hoodies here, but you'd be shocked at how many older people (50+) don't know anyone that wears hoodies.
The "hoodie" is also a garment of conscientious comfort. I see many people of color and insecure white people that use the hoodie as a medium out in public either to hide their looks or race and be able to function or get what they need to get done in a public setting. I wear a bunch of zipper hoodies and consider them a utilitarian outdoor gear.
Ok all of you saying that you don't think about what he said are lying. It is only natural to think of someone as a threat if they look that way. Yeah a white guy with a shaved head and covered in tattoos is going to make me feel uncomfortable, but I'm not going to just blurt out something stupid. It's ok to think it, and be careful, and aware of your surroundings. He said nothing bad, but when you act up on it and discriminate, then that's when you are wrong.
A hoodie is scary? If you drive through any remotely affluent suburban neighborhood in an even moderately cold area, 90% of kids are wearing hoodies. Most college campuses are filled with hoodies. I've never associated a hoodie with anything thug in my life.
Just stop selling hoodies to black people because it scares white people. Are they scared of the hoodie or scared of the black people in the hoodies? Are hoodies the new criminal uniforms when black people wear them? Black people should stay on their own side of the street OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Black person + hoodie = Trouble
smh... i though cuban was smarter than this. even if you think like that (and we all do to a certain degree) you don't say it out loud. not with today's pc culture and media hawks hunting for their next victim.
My mom had her purse stolen about 10 years ago by a group of teenagers. She would be Mark Cuban, in Cuban's description of wanting to avoid certain situations. She's not going to "ignore the impulse" of wanting to cross the street versus walk straight into group, again. Does this mean she's weak? Hell no. It means she's smart. I strongly, strongly disagree with the bolded statement. I'm willing to bet it just hasn't happened to you, yet.
You are taking it out of context like everyone seems to do now a days. He didn't say every black person, and he also mentioned a white person. Unfortunately we live and see crime everyday, from all kinds of races, and a black person in a hoodie fits the profile of a "thug" as does a white guy with shaved head and tattoos (skin head). How about a mexican guy with shaved head, goatee, tattoos and dickies? Yeah, if it's late at night and I'm walking home, and someone like this is approaching my way of course im going to feel a bit uncomfortable, wouldn't you ? if you say no, then you are lying to yourself, you have nothing to hide here, we don't know you. That is all Cuban was saying, that we all have those thoughts, and it is true, we do. Now what Sterling did, was say racist remarks, which is totally different.. no comparison.
Agreed with the former, disagree with the latter. Cuban is too big of a figure in sports media to take such a staunch stance out loud. If he wants to avoid situations, fine. I don't understand why he needed to specifically voice this particular opinion, however.
Because we live in America and we have the Freedom of Speech, he can say whatever the hell he wants. Is he racist ? no, is he smart? hell yeah, he's a billionaire. Is he truthful? yup, he was just keeping it real, and I agree with what he said. So what if he's a big celeb, at the end of the day, he still breathes the same are and ****s just like the rest of us.
when he's saying something real and what a lot of people feel, people come out to bash him for not being PC, yet when someone says something PC, we ridicule them for being PC and not being honest. you can't win, because people are so quick to bash people no matter what a person say. Cuban is right, we are all cautious, if you just live this world and think everyone is good, well I got news for you. The world is a bad place, and bad things happen all the time. there is nothing wrong with being cautious and alert when someone is wearing their hoodie up at night. It doesn't have to do anything with race or whatever, but just not being able to see someone's face at night is a bad vibe. I wear hoodies during the winter and I try not to put the hood on at night and wear a beanie instead when I'm walking my dogs. Anyways you guys are taking an interview and just concentrated on his hoodie comment SMH.
Saying you scare of black people in hoodies because 'hard rappers' dress that way and mean mug is like me saying I'm scare of white guys because This guy They all nothing more than fiction writers. . . Rocket River
and you don't see anything wrong with that? something as extreme as a white guy with a shaved head and face tattoos is just as menacing as a black kid in a hoodie? what about a white kid in a hoodie?
