Linares pretty much came out and said he's MLB ready defensively right now, said he makes plays every day with the glove and arm that are just unbelievable, and said he's the best baseball player he's ever seen in person. For whatever that's worth.

Yep that's pretty much all straight out of the Chron article I linked to.

I do like this (sorry, I don't live in Houston or read the Chron):

Linares: "He stood up and asked, 'Can I say a couple words?' And when he started talking -- actually, I'm getting goose bumps [right now]. I was like, 'I'm going to get this kid this year?'"

The Speech. It happened before the start of this season, with Luhnow gathering various members of Astros' organization to honor the Quad Cities River Bandits, the team's Class A affiliate that, with the help of Correa's .320 batting average in his first full pro season, won the Midwest League last year. It was a low-key ring ceremony, until Correa, one of the youngest guys in a crowded room, stood up and made it into something bigger:

"I want to talk to the players. When I went back to Puerto Rico in the offseason, everywhere I went, everywhere I go, I talk about this team. I talk about this team because the chemistry, the atmosphere in the clubhouse was incredible. ... You guys were my family. ... And when we got to the playoffs ... I got to the ballpark and looked at you guys, and I was like, 'We're going to win this for sure.' And we did. We did because we wanted it. So what I want to bring with this is, that's how you create championship teams, from the bottom to the big league level. ... If you guys keep the same atmosphere and the same dedication to each other, picking up each other, that's how we're going to create our organization."

This guy is going to be a superstar on Bagwell/Biggio level.

How awesome would it be if Correa turns out to be the real deal on and off the field to the same level that Watt is for the Texans?

I really dont know why it took the astros website so long to write an article about it? i saw this video earlier in the year and got goosbumps from his impromptu speech. Not because it was awe-inspiring but the fact that he's, this kid, is only 19. I always said, if hes half as good on the field as he is off, the Astros have a winner and a champion.

Teo Hernandez is tearing up the Cali league. I think he's around 3rd in all of baseball (minors & majors) in RBI. He's hitting better on the road than he is in Lancaster too.

Great article. I've become so reliant on this forum as my #1 source for everything Stros, that I go through stretches from time to time of forgetting to even visit the team website.

I remember this from Spring Training - great to see him progress as a player and a leader. Hope he has every success and helps turn around the fortunes of the franchise.

Anyone know how well a defensive catcher Holberton is?

IIRC, Holberton was noted for his offense.

I thought that was the case. I haven't heard anything on his defense, but his offensive numbers look good. I'd like to see him play, but I'm not really that good on judging catchers defensively.

Just go watch old video of Brad Ausmus and you will see why pitchers, coaches and managers loved the guy regardless of his offense.

google "Brad Ausmus" and go back to read some of the things he says about pitching, and read some of the things pitchers say about him.

It is very, very rare that you find the bat and glove and brain in the same package: like Bench, Yogi, Pudge, Fisk, Posada kind of rare. There's a reason guys like Ausmus, Scioscia and Matheney played in the bigs for so long.

Nitro with another spectacular outing today. Him Buchanan and Folty have been dominating since they've left the tandem system.

'Los is going to be that dude once he finally comes up. Will next year, say after the break, be too early for him? I really don't think so.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he's the OD starter next year, in fact I'd bet on it.

Please don't start calling him 'Los. That cannot catch on.
