Dennis Schroeder is that good? Haven't watched him enough and when I did watch him he didn't stand out. I wonder if the Kings would want some combo of Asik, Jones, Lin, Parsons.
Is Parsons worth that # 8 pick? Would Minnesota rather have Parsons or # 8 pick along with Jones and other pieces for Love? Along those same lines: Could you possibly package up Parsons, Jones, and # 25 to get into the top 5 picks? Would you?
Now that Charlotte has the #9 pick, what about an Asik swap with them? They need to get to the salary floor anyway. Asik, DMo & #25 for #9 & Bismack Biyombo I think it gives us a decent, young backup 5 to replace Asik for a couple years, but it also makes it almost impossible to get real close to the max for Anthony because of the draft pick rookie scale ($2.1M for #9 vs. $0.991M for #25) and Biyombo's salary. Maybe just #25 and Asik for #9. I'd be pretty happy with that return. Then sell Lin with Terrance Jones in a straight dump, if you can get Carmelo. If not re-explore Biyombo, by sending DMo and filler to Charlotte for him. Partnering with Charlotte seems to make a lot of sense with their need for a starting level defensive post next to Jefferson and other decent big men that could come back this way to fit in behind Howard.
Off of this (and maybe it is just getting late) let's say we have a call with Charlotte at the draft: Asik and #25 for #9. We have a Lin and Jones for salary dump contingency ready for if we can convince Carmelo to sign. Let's say he agrees... what if we approached the Knicks with the following, while just expanding the Charlotte deal that wouldn't actually be done on the books, yet. Houston sends: Asik, Jones, Lin, #25 in 2014, 2016 1st round 2015 2nd round, Powell/Casspi filler Houston receives: Carmelo Anthony, Bismack Biyombo, #9 pick Knicks sends: Anthony Knicks receives: Jeremy Lin, Jones, filler contracts, Rockets 2016 1st round pick Charlotte sends: #9 in 2014, Bismack Biyombo Charlotte receives: Omer Asik, #25 in 2014, Rockets 2015 2nd round pick (perhaps foreign rights or Covington instead/as well) Rockets have the deal with Charlotte already in this scenario, basically just add Biyombo for a future 2nd or small piece. Charlotte doesn't need him with Asik, Jefferson, and Zeller. Rockets will have to sweeten any deal to dump Jeremy Lin with either Terrance Jones or a pick. I added both to the Knicks to make it past what I think is reasonable if Rockets have leverage for Anthony otherwise. Biggest key: Rockets get to offer Anthony no money lost on his deal. Rockets come out with a third star, keep Parsons, get a decent backup C to replace Asik, and get the #9 pick. Knicks get a year of Linsanity to offset losing Carmelo, Terrance Jones, and a future late 1st round pick. If the alternative is losing him to Chicago or Houston for nothing, that seems to be a petty solid conciliation, no? Bobcats/Hornets get a perfect defensive big to pair with Jefferson, still get a pick in 2014, and get a future pick or rights for a player who has little to no role and makes $4m. If I am crazy, tell me. Somehow it seems to make sense to me on this late night. Who says no?
You're not crazy. That is actually pretty reasonable. Charlotte might want to try their luck at #9, but that is a solid trade all around and Eastern teams like NY and Charlotte would much rather improve a Western team than an Eastern one.
Asik and D-Mo for the 8th pick plus expirings if possible. If they want the 25th pick too, that is ok with me.
The lottery played out for us very well. No WC teams slipped into the top 4. I'm sure some of these GMs are sick and tired of losing. Chris Mannix tweeted this morning (last night?) that he's talked to a few GMs in the lottery who are willing to trade their pick. (I'm not good at posting tweets, so....) I would hope Morey is calling on (in no particular order) Cleveland, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Orlando, Boston, Charlotte, and Sacramento.
Do you think this trade would work? Teams involved: Rockets, T-wolves, Lakers Rockets Gain: K. Love + J.J. Brea Lose: Lin + Asik + Jones + 1st Rd Pick + 2nd Rd Pick Why: It's K. Love duh... J.J. Brea is a bad contract and a decent backup pg. T-Wolves Gain: Pau + Jones + 1st Rd Pick (Rockets) + 2nd Rd Pick (Rockets) + 2nd Rd pick (Lakers) Lose: K. Love + J.J. Brea Why: Pau is a decent PF and Jones can potentially emerge to a solid player plus three picks. Lakers Gain: Lin + Asik Lose: Pau + 2nd Rd Pick Why: Pau is a bad contract for the Lakers, and Lin will utilize the potential of their scrubs like what he did in the Knicks. Asik is a good starting C.
Yeah, you're not going to convince lakers to give up all their precious cap space for Asik and Lin, and they also can't trade Pau, because he's not under contract anymore. And even if he was, that's laughably bad for the wolves, they'd never agree.
If Marcus Smart makes it to #8 or #9 and we could get him for Asik+1st rounder then I would be elated.
